red oil light coming on!!
Discussion
First of all, are you sure it's the oil light, not the ignition (charging) light? There's usually some confusion about this, because of where the relative indicators are on different cars.
If it is the oil light and the pressure gauge shows a normal reading and the dipstick shows plenty of oil, it sounds like the oil pressure sender has failed, or there is a short in the lead that runs to it. It's a simple fix and the sender costs just a few quid.

Either the oil pressure warning switch has failed, or the wire has fallen off it and is shorted out against something, or you really don't have any oil pressure and your engine is about to die.
Edited to add:
Alternatively, that really is the no-charge warning light you're looking at, your fan belt has fallen off and as a result you now have no water circulation so the engine is going to die.
The best way to tell the two lights apart is to rev the engine slightly and then switch off. The no-charge warning light will glow as the engine spins down, the oil pressure light won't.
