A55 just after the Conway bends , on a straight posterior overtook anterior
Resulting in ........................
Not sure if it was the damn SO3's on the white line as I changed in to 4th , or a fuel spillage I hit changing from outside to inside lane . I had been taking it easy all day due to the conditions , so was only doing about 70 , but the back snapped viciously.
Hit the central barrier , then did a 270 deg pirouette and hit the kerb hard with the drivers side rear . Bodywork doesn't look outwardly too bad , but the inner wing has also gone as well as the radiator and concerned what damage has been done to the suspension /wheels and drivetrain.
Hope its back together for Back Home !

I'm more concerned about the hidden damage ,hit the kerb with a hell of a bang , probably 30-40 mph .Also appear to have broken the steering wheel.

I just don't understand this. Every time a Cerb gets busted its straight line accelerating, bum overtakes tits.
I have tried reproducing this in my car a thousand times with absolutely no sign of this happening. Even if I'm a complete animal with the accelerator the rear wheels spin with no sign that the front is going to lose grip.
Surely the ONLY way this is possible is if for some reason the rear of the car has more grip than the front of the car, and how is this possible in a front engined car even while on the accelerator?
Was the car on standard shocks, or were they uprated at any time, did you have a lot of weight in the rear of the car. Just pulling at straws here. I would dearly love to understand this behavour of the car.

Don't profess to understand it , but thats what happened . As regards the shocks , new standard shocks ( and all rear end bushes including top diff ) fitted 6000 miles/ 7 months ago by Dom T.
Perhaps the answer is that in trying to recreate it , one is already primed for a deviation , but when on a straight stretch or in my case changing lanes you can be caught unawares VERY quickly . I was on reflex action only and am mightily pleased I was able to react as quickly as I did.

This looks like a lane change situation which isn't quite the same as straight line accelerating?
All sorts of things like lifting of the throttle and hitting white lines/diesel will make the rear light and if there's any sort of lock on the steering the rear can glide round rather than powering round.
With regards S03's. BCA said send the bill to Bridgestone which is kinda what I did!
They were so bad on my car that I complained to Bridgestone and they bought them back off of me
. If different tyres (Falken FK451's) hadn't sorted the cold/wet weather handling I would have sold up.
Tyres can make ALL the difference to the point where regardless of the quality of your suspension etc the car will feel awful
. Sorry about your car Neil, read up some of the tyre reviews on here and you'll see that S03's are considered as dangerous by a lot of people on here so don't beat yourself up too much.

You seem to have some fundamentally wierd ideas about how rear-wheel-drive cars handle, which is rather scary if you're deliberately provoking wheelspin on a regular basis. The reason the car spins is that the rear wheels break traction and have very little sideways grip, the front wheels still have plenty of sideways grip and keep going the way they are pointing. Imagine yanking the handbrake on and you get a very similar effect when the rear wheels lock up. Anyone considering driving a powerful rwd car through the winter really has to get the real wheel drive mindset and understand what causes oversteer and how to counter it. When the car starts to slide you have very little time to react and need to do the right thing straight away, you can't be trying to work this stuff out on the fly.

Sorry, I just don't believe you can learn this stuff wholey from a book. I never driven any other car than a rear wheel drive. You comments make little sense (to me
) because a car that brakes traction at the back is only going to move sideways to OVERTAKE the front if the rear wheels gain traction somewhere. If you yank the handbrake on on a car the rear will fish tail a little but the end result will be you still pointing in the same direction which is just basic physics. There'd be very little use for a handbrake if it caused a crash every time it was used. In the good old days before speed cameras, the handbrake was your best friend when there was a police car behind you. I can tell you there have been occasions I nearly pulled the handbrake lever off in that situation with no ill effects
And I have to finally disagree with you on the premise that you shouldn't provoke wheelspin regularly. I do this on almost any trip wet or dry. You cannot think your way out of a spin while its happening. The brain is incapable of moving this fast. No matter how many books you read, they will not prepare you for the event. The proceedure for 'catching' the car as so aptly demonstrated above has to be a 'learned behavour', or reaction, and so uses a different part of the brain. Ride drives and tracktime/skinpan are all very well but unless you are doing them very regularly they will not help you when the time comes in your Cerb.
Michael schumaker doesn't have reactions which are any faster then yours, just a lot of learned behavour which is regularly updated. Pick your place, it doesn't have to be dangerous.
But going back to the original thread, I think one of the later posters spotted something I didn't which was the change in lanes, which I think goes a long way to explaining why this happened.
