Anyone with experience putting the Stack dash in a Ultima that has time to share advice. I've bought a ST8130 without fuel pressure or tank gauges.

I would also appreciate suggestions on how to fit a turn signal lever on the car.

Thanks

I have fitted a STACK 8130 dash to my car, I fabricated my own pinacle and had to supply my own fuel and speed sensors.

What do you want to know?

How much of the stock harness did you use? What modifications did you make to it? The stock harness has an oil indicator lamp that I don't think I'll need as the dash has an indicator built in.

I bought the binnicle that the factory sells and need any details that you know regarding mounting the dash to the car.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I fitted the Stack harness in parralel to the cars harness as I didn't fancy splicing in (which is what GTRCLIVE did).

I came down the drivers side and fitted an air temp sensor in the bulkhead to monitor the engine bay temp.

Whilst I have two tanks I fitted one fuel sensor on the drivers side and fitted a -12 balance pipe between the tanks so that they acted as one (works well).

The oil temp was tapped into the outlet of the sandwich plate (for the oil cooler and accusump).

The wheel sensor was mounted at the front and reads the bolts for the brake disc (same as GTRCLIVE).

I can't give you any advice on the factory pinacle as I had this and didn't think it would look right so made my own, yours may fit better as the pinacle is designed for the GTR and the dash is different shape to the Can-am.

I've got the AP brake upgrade (not the 14" set). Did you use the bolts on the front brake hat to monitor Speed?

Yes, there were 12 per rotation on mine which was more than good enough for the speedo to work properly.

Dunno how close you are to doing this, but I'm fitting the ST8130P to mine and will cover all the required modifications needed to set it up.

Should be in next week!

Good tip I learnt to late.

One note to anyone that is Thinking of getting a Stack unit. Fuel pressure is definatly worth monitoring, especially if useing a Carb, while under full throttle the fuel pressure should not drop more than 1 psi, if it does then the regulator / fuel pump arn't doing there job right. This can cause bore wash
if the float bowl niddles are not under the same pressure all the time.

I have found this out to late for me, but if you are buying one pay the extra for fuel pressure sensing.

Agreed, fuel pressure is indeed worth monitoring. I plan a seperate gauge that taps into the float bowl fitting on a Holley dominator bowl.

Look forward to seeing the setup Stig. I'm told the wait will be 3 weeks, they are backordered in the states.

The setting up as the Stack dash isn't really difficult and the only problem I had was over the wheel sensor were I had the wrong type.

The only real technical set up is the fuel sensor and after being warned it was a poblem I approached it systematicaly and it worked first time.

This is a good place to ask any detailed questions as a lot of us here have fitted the 8130 Stack dash.

Hi Ken,
Did your car come with a binnacle for the VDO gauges? Have you permanently mounted the center cockpit section? I went to the trouble of cutting my VDO guage pod out, reglassing in the giant hole, then cutting a new hole for the factory stack binnacle and glassing it into place on the drivers side. Then I sanded this smooth, primed it, and reshot the entire dash and cockpit with flat black paint. I can give you more details if needed. There are probably easier ways to install the Stack dash pod. If your going to skin the dash in vynal or leather, then you won't have to worry about the dash prep and painting. Its a real pig of a job.
Cheers!

I do have the center pod but will not use it. The dash is flat without any holes. Not planning any dash covering. Any one have any thoughts RE: a sensor on the front wheels VS one on the rear? I have the option of specing either.

I don't know how these sensors work but imagine they are magnetic or optical. Others have said the sensor 'counts' the bolt heads so I am assuming this is the drive shaft bolts.
If all this is true, what will you count on the front wheels?

Stack just called to ask what type of speed sensor I want. What shall I ask for?

Thanks,
Ken

Re. the last couple of posts.

Tha factory now supply a Stack binnacle and from fitting it (today) it's excellent! Just need to cover in alcontara although the finish is good enough for paint only.

Secondly, in reply to Ken, the speed sensors are either for take off from the driveshafts (longer cable runs) or from the front wheel (wheel sensor). I've got the wheel sensor option on my ST8130P. There's a limitation on whether you can have an air temperature sensor depending on which type you have (I have NO idea why!) so have a chat with Stack to work out the best combinatio for you.

Initial install will appear tomorrow as well as my neat indicator/horn replacement for a quick-release wheel.
