Griff Paint Work

Hi All.
I am looking for advice on how to make my paint work look as good as possible.
I know this might seem a daft question but can i t-cut a colour like chianti starmist?
I would like to hear from anyone who has used a orbital pollisher type tool!
Is it worth me investing in one?

Hi Pasco, funnily enough, I have just done mine with machine polisher (made by Sealy, has adjustable speed control, excellent and not to expensive ) after being laid in my garage for 2 months and she has come up wonderfull, used a very fine polish (not t cut) and finished off with a waxing. Should be no problem doing yours irrespective of colour !! If you do decide to do it, keep mop moving, use a little water and not to much motor speed. Dave

It crossed my mind that t-cut would be too much for this type of paint finish.
Am i right in thinking Dave that you mop fine pollish onto the car then use a resin based polish like Auto Glym and mop this also to get the best results ?

Hi Paul, used the softest polishing sponge mop I could get and used the finest polish too, this takes off the `dead` surface laquer, finished off with a good quality wax applied by hand, however you could use a lambs wool polishing head . Regards dave

You can get metallic t-cut which is less abrasive.......but I've seen G3 used on metallics and they've been OK......if you decide to use a machine polisher, be very careful on edges as they do go through the paint easily with cutting compounds etc.....personally unless it's really faded or scratched I'd stay away from cutting compounds! (I've used G3 on a localised area on Crimson Starmist - a nice person scratched the door, and if you're careful you can get good results)

The Polishing Company sell kits that included some stuff that cleans away old wax build up etc..... with some spectacular results.... which I witnessed at the demos done last year at S Club Heaven and the Griff Growl.

Radiant red.... (colour of mine) you could see the difference from a lack lustured shine to deep radiant red on 15yrs old cars demo'd on... (not mine as I'm too lazy )

If it is the P21S kit then yes. I've found its had stunning results on both my red TVR and my black type-r I owned before.

wink wink nudge nudge ...its a fair bet!!!!

The stuff Mike sells, which I use, is a cleanser which takes the finish back to concourse prior to you then waxing it - takes off any acrylic layers etc. It has worked for me Follow that up with some P21S carnauba and its the dogs conkers....

Mike is well known by TVR owners - he has been at the last 2 Growls, BNG 2005, BBWF 2005 (was he or am I imagining), S Club 2005, and others that I can't recall off the top of my head. Regular at the East Mids meets too.
I can confirm he will be at the Growl.

He was at BBWF 2005. I have a few photos of your alloys from the griff growl while he was taking the lacquer off.

Sorry, thought I remember you saying they'd been lacquered when the car was valeted or something like that? must have got the wrong end of the stick. Why was Mike polishing them, hadn't you just had them restored?

there were some stains - I think from when the valeter had sprayed something onto them. Told the bodyshop not to do anything to the wheels but they obviously didn't get the message across.
This was a Growl pic so there was sun. Sorry thought it was BBWF when it rained.

Mate - did you get the cleanser to use first to get any layers of acrylic stuff off? Gives best results apparently....

edited to add - if you didnt drop me a line as im only in Sutton Coldfield and I see you are in Staffs (soemwhere) you could pop down and borrow some if you want. Personally Id invest in some but its no probs
