Most garden birds are pretty thick, I'm told the silhouette of an owl will scare 'em off - and you could probably draw that yourself.

I find the "alrightlove, how'd you like your eggs in the morning" line scares off most birds.

My sister has a great gadget for scaring of moles - but that wont work with birds

Maybe something similar is out there? Electric sound emitters (sp?)?

my inlaws the farmers use an interesting device that uses curved blades to create a kind of flailing arms effect. If there's a bit of wind it can drive itself.

If you know the type of bird you can buy little electric things which produce the sound of that bird in distress. Supposed to put them off! Not a clue if it would work tho.

the owl thing does not work. My bro-in-law had a problem with pigeons roosting in his balcony of his flat. So he borrowed a life sized wooden owl from a mate and stuck it in the baclony. On coming home from work he saw his neighbours in fits of laughter. He went over to ask what was amusing them, only to see two pigeons in the balcony, sitting on the owls head

Shoot seveal birds down using an air rifle, tie them to cords and use their dead bodies to make some bolas, which you just hurl back up into the tree.

You could do the same with some plastic birds of prey, which will swing freely and look more alive than the stationary owl.

Or you could just chuck a bunch of bird snakes up into the tree

Or build a scarecrow and put some dead birds in his hands, tie angel wings to his back and hang him from the tree by a solar powered motor which spins him spin round and round

Wedge some roadkill between the branches, get a taxidermist to make their mouths snarl etc...

He said it's in a conservation area so will have to notify the local council under a section 2.11 letter of intent to prune Unfortunately it's up to them to decide if it needs pruning.

Do be careful and avoid any pruning (of any tree/bush)- people have been arrested for pruning match sized twigs from trees they didnt have permission to prune
