My 94 Chim 400 has the push button door lock/handle (ie not the buttons under the wing mirror). I was putting the roof back on yesterday after a great drive and closed the passenger door. I always open the door just to check the window doesn't catch the roof, however, when i pressed the door lock button down, it opened slightly then got stuck.

i tried from the inside, both using the door release knob and also by lifting up the carpet flap that covers the locking mechanism, but no joy.

The door opens slightly then gets caught on the latch. Any suggestions as to what i can do to open the door? I guess i may need to play around with a bit of wire to try to release the catch fully - wont be easy though. Failing that, might have to call out a locksmith?

Got MOT at the end of March - suppose it'll fail if the passenger door doesn't open

I've had that happen before a couple of times... I just played around with the central locking, off and on a couple of times and all was well

Tried locking and unlocking quite a few times yesterday, but no joy. It feels as though something substantial is stopping the door from opening.

Is it possible for the door to opening slighty if the deadlock is still on?

If so, it may be the deadlock that hasn't withdrawn properly, though i did check from inside the car.

Did you shut the door properly again, a good solid push, before locking and unlocking with the alarm fob?

Check the allen headed bolts that hold the lock mechanism in the door shut. These sometimes work loose & give the symptoms you describe.

Had another look today. Cant check the allen bolts as i cant ge the door open to check them! If it ever opens again, i'll make sure they're tight.

Have identified the problem by playing round with the drivers door which does open.

The door lock has three positions: fully closed/locked, ajar, and fully open/released. My passenger door gets caught in the ajar position and it seems as if the spring in the locking mechanism no longer allows the catch to move past the ajar position to fully release the door.

Looking at the locking mechanism from inside the car, i cannot see any way how to force the catch to release further.

Also, i've got my MoT coming up soon - i presume it will fail if the passenger door cant be opened.
