Hi Guys.
I've posted something similar on the TVRCC forum, but looking at the threads it doesn't seem to get as much traffic as PH.
I'm awaiting delivery of my Tam and have started thinking about insurance. Any idea of quotes would be very, very welcome.

AON (who I currently use) have quoted £1147 which, for a 46 year old with full N/C who drives a RWD 240bhp car, seems a little high. Mind, I do have 6 points.....

What are you good folks paying and who are you with? I've been lead to believe that £800 - £900 is typical but I saw one thread where less than £500 was mentioned. Although this latter was not for a Tam.

All contributions which might reduce the amount of time and effort spent chasing people in order to GIVE THEM MONEY! gratefully received.

If you're used to high performance cars (i.e. not 18 and driving a Fester) and have a reasonable history then you should be able to insure the car for £600-£800. However, the first year is usually more expensive, possibly due to the car being over £40k value and insurers 'new for old' in the first year type clauses.

My Chimaera was £600ish for 6 years. Got a new T350 and insurance was £1000 in the first year, now in second year back down to £650ish.

2 insurers to check with are A Manning (Henley) - the TVRCC 'recommended' insurer (or are they just a sponsor?). Sunninghill Insurance, based in Bagshot are also very good. I've jumped back and forth between these two over the years.

Thanks Trefor, that makes sense. I've posted on the TVRCC Insurance forum and hopefully will get a reply from Ann Manning.

I'll try your other recommendation; was also told to try Tesco so will give them a go. Fortunately (or sadly - depends how you look at it) I've two months to wait so have planty of time to sort quotes.

Try Privilige Insurance, been best for me for the past 3 years almost. I always do the online quotes (usually get an extra 10% off too), cost has always been around the £580 mark - funnily enough, when I was quoted for a 240BHP Honda S2000, is was £740!!!

Checking your profile I see you're in Dorset - probably a reasonable postal code area for the insurers. I'm in Wycombe - handy for people to nip out of West London, do a few robberies then nip home on the A40 = highish insurance postal code thingumy. So you should be able to get a reasonable quote.

Being new and naive, is there any implication that I've just bought a 'Sheila' car?

However, who cares! And if the insurance is cheap so much the better.

Yeah, Dorset quite good. Most people are too old and wealthy to go in for a bit of B&E or Twocking. However, my wifes 14 day ban at the end of 2002 is shooting the premium up from £808 to £940. The price of having a lovely wife who sometimes drives like a loon.....

LOL, Nah, just a bit of 'friendly' rivalry between model choices, but I do think the 350 lot have a few 'issues', so they hide them by bullying the very small number of Tam owners.

Ah. So they're sheep that need the comfort and protection of the flock, without that level of indviduality exhibited by folk like we Tam drivers.

One expression of passivity is by seeking social acceptence; being part of a group, not being prepared to push the boundaries by making an exceptional choice.

Or something.....

PS I'm not too old for Twocking, and I'm CERTAINLY not too wealthy. Especially after buying the Tam....
