Bonnet vents and water on engine?

Hey,

I have been thinking of putting some vents in my bonnet. I'm not overly clued up on the whole Cerbera thing yet and I have heard that getting the engine wet is a bad thing and i'm thinking any bonnet vents will let rain water in. I think the vents would look best at the screen end of the bonnet and hence over the engine.

Has anyone put vents in? Am I worrying about something thats not going to be an issue?

Any advise would be great!

Erm, nesseling in the middle of the 'V' on a Cerb' are 2 coil paks, not the kind of thing that you want covered in water regually, also, if your car lives outside the 'V' may well fill with water! I know it does this because mine did when I had the top engine cover removed.

Not sure why you'd want vents, but RS Turbo, but I guess each to their own.

Not something i'm def decided on but was just a thought. Just something a bit different, but different isn't always good. I do like the wing vents in the Sagaris though. Further thought required on this. Guess if it all goes wrong I can fit another bonnet or get one from a breaker to try the vents on first.

On a recent thread people were talking about the position of the engine encouraging the "collection" of heat. I wondered whether you could fit some kind of side vents in front of the doors, or even hidden in the "slash" at the front edge with piping from the engine bay area.

I think someone said that the way the under bonnet trapped heat works, the bonnet vents make no discernable difference.

Interesting, now that they are purely cosmetic I see little merit personally. When they were for cooling they made sense.

Quite like the idea of side vents, al-a, old Astons, but even that might look too fussy, its the clean lines that make the Cerb so elegant.

There is a Cerb', owned by a garage I think, that has a very modified bonnet, but I'm damned if I can remember which garage! Sure, someone will post a link.

Some one had a modified bonnet at VW yesterday,it looked good,was either a dark grey or grey/green colour with Furball 5000 stickers plastered all over it.

The wing 'vents' in the sagaris were originally intended to relieve wheelarch pressure and so reduce lift, nothing to do with cooling, The problem with the cerb is getting the heat / airflow out of the engine bay, which is why the starter motor gets cooked, some chap has already done some underbonnet temp measurement and foiund bonnet vents to have little or no effect. Probably because the engine is so far back in the cerb the exhausts are tucked up into the tunnel with the starter at the top of that tunnel. Probably more effective is replacing the little chin spoiler (which is ripped off on most cars by speed humps) under the car to reduce flow underneath and so redcung the pressure to try and encourage flow out from the tunnel

You mean this one (pre-stickers)Boss Cerbera www.pistonheads.co.uk/members/showcar.asp?carId=19385 I think you'll find that these "sparrow catchers" are unique to Boss Cerbera car...... but then so is the car

i've a modded bonnet on mine, didn't like at first, but has grown on me. It does aid cooling, plus seems to keep front down a bit more at high speeds. i am looking for another bonnet to change over.

ahem.. well i've been driving round with no plate on the front for a while, until MOT on sat & plus the way i drive, some quotes from friends i've not seen for a while:
'Deano’s not lost his ‘test driver all the time’ driving style'. which i thought best have one on the front now.

i always had the plate inside the car, which is like an motorbile one, quite small which i now have stuck down in the position you see.

so far 'touch wood' its been ok. just looked at the photo again, i think the new plate is half that in the photo. "its to aid cooling"

that was before 7 coats of wax and a very saw arms,(from waxing i must say)!! although now front has a few chips... oopsss
still i drive it as much as i can.
