Wheel Balancing

Chaps,
My 996 has got a bit of a shake on over about 80mph. It seems to be coming from the rear so I suspect the wheels out of balance. Being new to Porsche ownership do I just take it to kwik fit or is more specialised balancing required?

Any High St tyre fitter should be capable.
They probably will, but I would insist that they use adhesive weights fitted to the inner part of the rim, not the hammer on type.

Hmmm....

the tyres of course being the only thing connecting your 40-60K high performance sports car to the road?

S'pose your right, though i think if i'd invested that much time and effort into a car, i'd want to make damned sure it was properly sorted, both so i could utulise the performance I'd paid for, and to keep me safe and well. look up the recent threads on geometry, may be of help...

How old are the tyres, are they worn on the edges, especially check the inner side. If they are worn this could be a possible reason for the wobble.

company i work for can do inside balancing and we can use slim line weights so they dont catch on the caliper
