No Rear Wing

Afternoon guys,

Thinking of leaving the rear wing off my car when I get it back from the bodyshop.

Anyone know of any adverse effects from doing so??

and anyone got any pics of any cars without the rear wing??

Have a search through the Virginia Waters pictures. There is a chap (whose name escapes me) who I've spoken to at a couple of meets who has taken the wing off - it looks very nice. He was there on Sunday and there's at least 1 photo of his car.

That'll be AMG merc, his name is rob.

His car looks very nice without the wing, however the wing is there for a number of reason, one of these being to keep the wheels on the ground, and keep the backend stable at speed.

Personally I'd never take the wing off, but that's just me.

Just think the car looks nice just now sitting in the bodyshop without it, dont really go fast enough for it to have any adverse effects!! to worried i'll chip the new paint!!

My brother has an M12 and he removed the spoiler after about 3 weeks of owning it. It looked great and didn't seem to cause any stability problems. It's now back on the car as he gets bored very quickly. No doubt it will be off again soon.

David, wing on - wing off? It's entirely up to you - I take it off until I fancy a change and then put it back on for a while! Mine was delivered without the wing fitted so I got used to it sans wing for the first 9 months.

Jools, well I think maybe we'd need do be doing well over 100mph around a bend for the wing to create noticable downforce and how many of us are going to take a trackday that seriously?!

Clearly not you the way you drive

With some of the corners at Brands taken at 80+ I'd personally always leave it on, if only to add some additional weight.

I did play around once with a java wing model from our old CTO at our German operation (he had a PHD in aero design) and the shape that I put in that approximated the shape of the Noble wing does generate inverse lift, but not that effectivly.

If you drive it on the road your choice, but I'd always recommend it for on track. Looks wise, I prefer on rather than off.

It's not just cornering, stability under braking is also important and I recall Danny saying he felt it was reduced without the wing.

On the issue of removing the rear wing - i'm in fianl stages of purchases a Noble and for me th ewing has to come off (sorry personal thing) can anybody help with how to best plug the holes?

i aslo have issue with noise of turbos (these are only tow things - i'm 53 so ican forgive myslef ofr being old fasioned!!) can anybody help with how to reduce /stop turbo noise.

You can plug them with simple rubber bungs (available at your local Halfords etc. - the very small ones used to 'fill' car antenna holes are idea), or you can use a suitable bolt and nut.

On 3Rs and all later cars the air filters are moved backwards from the bulkhead to inside the intercooler. This makes the noises hardly noticable.

I think you are mad as I love the noise (I had them moved back to the 'original' position on my M400) but it makes sod all difference to the performance so enjoy it sans noises!

I had mine moved forward too as I want to enjoy the noise. Its part of the whole driving experience IMO.

Justin, I'd be interested to know exactly which rubber bungs you mean as I've spent a lot of time looking for suitable plugs or bungs for the wing bolt holes ...my criteria being a snug fit (that won't enlarge the hole), a low profile, relatively easy to remove and paintable (the Halfords bungs I've seen are either too large or too small).

I even have samples sent from a rubber bung company (yes there is one!) and have tried many other potential solutions to no avail. Currently I'm running with Grey wall plugs from the DIY store as these are already colour-coded and are virtually flat to the body.

"PLUGS, BUNGS, WHY DON'T YOU JUST DRIVE IT" - there, I've saved you your usual retort!
