Boot button

My Boot button appears to have given up the ghost. When i press it nothing happens, not even the clicking sound. So, needless to say i cannot get into my boot, which will pose a bit of a problem the next time i need petrol.

Any ideas what it might be, and if it could be an easy fix?

Yep its a really easy fix. When you get into the boot the badge is on two threads either side with a button in the centre. The nuts on the badge preset how far away from the button it is. Just adjust them and robert is your mothers brother.

Of course it could be the button itself, but I think its a standard RS part.

if its not the button it may be the actuator, if it is check the thread at the head of this page as a replacement can be bought from Maplins.

You'll need to gain access via the secret method...then on the back panel,inside the boot, behind where the badge is located, you'll feel a recess through the carpet. You can either cut a slot in the carpet or peel carpet back from an edge, to gain access to the switch.
The switch is just a small micro switch with 2 'fragile' wires soldered to it and held in place with a nut. If the wires look intact, it could be that the 2 small nuts holding the badge in place need to be adjusted, as the badge may not be pushing the micro switch..badge is held away from the microswitch with 2 small springs (badge side), and these also collect muck which stops the badge being depressed enough. This will require the removal of the badge...careful not to drop the nuts into the back panel upon removal/refitting...and a clean up before refitting/adjusting.
Easy job to do, and if new switch is required, then Im sure you'll get one at Maplins.....
