Hiya all & before anyone says it I know this has been done to death but having experienced this I just had to post, before you buy a 240 Cup/R I seriously suggest you first try the Honda conversion, went for a spin in Alex's car on Sunday and all I can say is Fantastic ! it's better than an R in every way I can think of accept it's not new. I can't speak for the 240R or the 240 Cup as I haven't been in one but I can't believe it would be quicker, Alex's isn't supercharged and it's an animal so god knows what that goes like

..yeah - thats what a lot of people have been saying all along - 220bhp in 800Kg vs 240bhp in 930Kg feels pretty similar...if you already have a fully sorted car thats paid for then £10K ish to Honda/Audi it or £30K to change to a 240R is a big choice to make .........

Agree feel a little silly now as I was raving about the 240r/Cup and I haven't even been in one yet, I'll have to try one and a Honda supercharged and then make my mind up, but like what you've said If I've got my car fully sorted by then the Honda really is the only option unless I get offered a fantastic deal, Lotus have just got to reduce that price

yeah - depends on lots of individual factors - the 240R is a great package 'off the shelf'...but if you have a modded car thats fully sorted...but only worth like £12K trade in then its a big chunk to pay out just to get a new, factory car. From a financial perspective you lose out either way -Honda car with conversion cost, new car with savage depreciation for a couple of years...its more whether you want a factory car or are just after the performance for track use etc...the latter you can get with £10K spent on your own car

Well to be honest the Honda conversion was on my priority list for a while, hence my 111S getting Nitron's , new whees, A048's, 4 points, adjustable ARB, etc., etc. in preparation. But with its demise and the option of an off the shelf Cup 240 as a company car then I hope you can understand my change of heart.
I can imagine the full Honda conversion on the 111S being absolutely stunning, but in reality it is just another flavour of a truly great car, regarding what is "best" I think the only answer is that there is no deffinitive answer due to circumstances, opportunities etc.
I am sure by the time I come to look at buying out my Cup 240 at a "good" price ( if i dont bend it )there will be some leery options for the Toyota lump.I will let you know my thoughts when mine arrives and would be up for shot of a Honda conversion at a later date.

Hope I made the right choice!!!!!!!!

You do stuart...if you can pay the origenal, its a plus to have?! and a; want me too Item, but when you have a S2 for not that much the Honda is the way to go..and when you have the cash a origenal Cup is very tempting there is a space between the both...and thats on the moment about 10K? cash...

240Rs scare me at how much they're depreciating (used one on PH classifieds I think)

I've lost much of what I've spent on modifying my car, but it's still much less than 240R depreciation and with only half the outlay for a well sorted lighter 333bhp car.

If it's a company car and it's not your money that's being lost, then I can see a case for th 240R, although a new Lotus isn't necessarily a reliable Lotus

easier to get a new turnkey package past the bean counters than upgrading & modding something. Will not be the "ultimate" Elise but what will? Honda? Duratec? RST V8 .
Who cares, main thing is

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know what S1's with Honda conversions have been selling for? About to put my wife's on the market (she wants an MPV ). It's a very tidy 98 S1 which is unmodified apart from the Honda conversion and Pagid brake pads. It goes without saying that it's a absolutely fantastic car to drive.

depends on the spec of the car - seen them as low as £17K for a base spec Honda car and up to £23K for a real high spec, fully sorted, resprayed mint car

late teens seems to be the order of the day. Personally I would struggle to pay more than £17- £18k for a Erise since ropey S1's can be had for £7k these days. Ok, so you have other costs to consider on top of the engine, but even still I would want to see some benefit in ££s from buying a car where somebody else has paid for the conversion.

yeah - agreed - mid to high teens for early car just with engine done etc...the one I know of that went for £23K was a 2000 car that was virtually brand new with every mod you could think of.

High teens sounds very fair. It's a very good condition S1 otherwise. Thanks for the input - can anyone point me at where the actual cars sold anywhere?

I presume you're talking of Ricks car Bogie? Possibly the most sorted S1 I've ever seen. At 23k that was a very good deal IMvHO.
