Whilst doing some health and saftey work today, I came across two construction workers who had 'accidents' with a nail gun. The first, Patrick Lawler, complained of tooth ache after unknowingly sending a 4 inch nail through his chin and into his skull (1 1/2 inches into his brain to be precise). He went to the dentist six days later, who found it.

The second, Isidro Mejia, fired six at himself when the he fell onto his friend below him who was using it. One of which narrowly missed his spinal cord.

Both men lived.

Don't know why i'm sharing this, but it made me wonder what other stupid stuff goes on that you don't often hear about.

There was a bloke on telly recently - tried to kill himself with a shotgun. Blew half his face away and lived.

Looked suprisingly OK. You could tell he had had repair work done but was generally sound.

our health and safety chap made himself look a right tit, he was demonstrating our new, expensive knife proof gloves with a stanley knife, but somehow managed to put on the non-knife proof ones, and cut his hand open in front of everyone!

I read on a policing forum about an officer who wanted to show off his new 'stab proof' gloves to his mates - he drove a knife straight through his hand, severing tendons etc. The gloves were actually slash proof. The officer had done enough permanent damage that he had to leave the job.

Which is in the same vein as the insurance claim inspector who mis-believed a claim relating to a catering meat slicer that had taken the claimant operators fingers off.

The insurer and manufacturer said it ws impossible unless the guards had been tampered with. Inspector arrives on-site, checks all guards are in place and re-creates the incident - right down to him taking his fingers off

I believe the insurance paid out pronto.

i read a cringe worthy tale in a lads mag once it was about a bloke who went on his mates stag do and after they got completely plastered this bloke and his mates walked home. on the way they came across a flag pole and this bloke thought he'd climb up it and slide down but when he slid down he forgot to see a cleat on the side of the pole and it tore an inch long gash in his ball bag imagine the pain and embarrasment!!

My friends dad tried to kill himself with a shotgun under his chin.
Both barrels.
Just succeeded in blowing his bottom jaw across the room.
They reconstructed his face and he looked like one of the Thompson Twins (the tintin versions not the 80s pop group).
He killed himself slowly with alchohol after that....

Err...thats not a funny story is it?
