I see 20 inch screens are a fair bit more expensive than 19 inch. I'm happy with 1280x768 so don't need the 1600 resolution most 20 inch screens seem to offer. Apart from 1 inch more screen, is there any other reason I shouldn't be spending £250-£300 on a 19 instead of £450-£500 on a 20?

Favourite LCD brands appreciated too. I'm think either Viewsonic (Dabs have some good ones) or the std Dell 19 incher.

Thanks.

19" TFT is pretty much the equivalent of a 21" CRT so I don't think there would be too many worries there.

I've had a ViewSonic VX912 for a few weeks now and its spot on, and leaves far more desk space than a 21" CRT!! I also run at 1280x1024 and the picture is nice and crisp, well coloured etc.

It's not the size that's the important/expensive part, it's the resolution.

A 20" TFT can be 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x768, 1280x1024....etc.

If you don't need a high quality (high definition) picture then low resolution is fine for your needs.

Personally I use a 1920x1200 resolution 23" machine so that I can fit all my toolsbars on and still be able to have some space for the document.

It might be worth trying a widescreen? I find my tft is quite a bit taller and you don't tend to notice stuff at the bottom of the screen alot of the time. Having said that it's quite good for work stuff when you need quite a but of space on screen. No doubt somebody on here will be able to give an opinion.

Viewsonic VA1912W 19" Widescreen for about £230?

Not as good as my Dell 2005FPW 20" widescreen but the specs are still pretty handy:

- 1440 x 900 (WXGA) Optimum Resolution
- 16.2 Million Colours
- 500:1 Contrast Ratio
- 8ms Response Time
- 300 cd/m2 Brightness
- One DVI-D Input

My sister has one and I was impressed - especially for the money.

Thanks guys. I've ordered a VX924 19 inch from Dabs. Looks like it should do the job nicely.
