Cat C insurance recorded,%off value??

Hi

As a few of you will have noticed I am on the hunt for a decent Griff

I have been offered a nice looking 1994 500 with low miles/4 owners various mods and upgrades HOWEVER it was damaged repaired CAT C full report on the cosmetic(only)repair included with the car.(was repaired by a well known company)

Vendor seems 100% genuine

What I would like to know though is at what percentage below an undamaged simmilar car's cost should I expect to pay?

hi Rob,

I wouldn't read too much into what people would advise to pay for a cat C car - I would say just try a few and compare the cat C car to the rest of the previous ones you've looked at - whatever you pay for it should be acceptable to you and no one else can advise on that - with griffs running down in numbers year by year it may even turn into an investment ( fingers crossed ).

Some people wouldn't even consider trying a previously damaged car - they obviously have a bigger budget than me!

I would have had that chim you bought a couple of months ago if you hadn't been so quick

but I ended up buying a pistonhead members cat c chim and I'm well pleased with the result and would say go for it !

I think as said you should judge the car on condition really. Cat C is normally heavier damage than Cat D so check the repairs have been carried out well. It also worth finding out when the damage occurred to the car, as one that was damaged years ago and still showing no signs of poor repairs is a better buy than one that’s just been done and might start crazing etc in a few months time. I’m still considering selling my car which is Cat D from about 5 years ago, it had photos of the damage which wasn’t very heavy at all, many griff’s have been repaired at some point now and I can say that there are lots of crashed damaged cars on here that were repaired by insurance without writing off with far more damage than mine had, when I sell I know I won’t get full market value for mine because it’s Cat D, and you need to remember it might take you a little longer to sell on when you part with it.

Interesting tales there will have to give it serious consideration especially because its a lot less than unrecorded cars currently on the market.

Grant....That Chim ! yeah I know I got there first and I gather he had lots of interest,well I just don't have the time to do whats needed to put her on the road hence its on ebay with a day and a half to go.

Bonus if she sells (well it will sell cos no reseve)

Its not will you be happy with it or will you be happy with a cat C car, but will you be able to re-sell a cat C vehicle and will you be able to convince a possible purchaser that its ok. I nearly got an E36 M3 Evo recently then found out that it was a cat D and then wouldnt touch it. How do i know that it was only cosmetic and that it has been repaired correctly. I can only see the body and not the rest.

dont be put off by cars that have been repaired just take some one along that knows what to look for and spend the money you saved on upgrades
