Oil Pressure Needle Problem?

Today I experienced for the first time the oil needle occasionly shot past the max 5 level and seeming to stick there. As the day when on it seemed to do it more often. The car seemed to have no problems. Always returning to its correct readings after a while until late on when my journey home it seemed to stick past the 5 mark all the way home, approx 40 mins on motoway No obvious leak this evening. Is this a reading error or could there be a problem? 1998 996 c2 cab. 40000 miles. Thanks

i have changed many oil pressure switches on 996 for flickering but never sticking....possible cluster fault
but change the oil pressure switch o/s cylinder head cover.....and see how you go.
