The final details for the Scumball have now beeen confirmed. Hotels are reserved and ferry is booked. Details have all been agreed and now the only thing we've got to do is buy the Ring tickets, and double-check that they aren't going to impose restrictions or anything silly.

www.scumball.co.uk/

Confirmed Event Dates:
Start: Thursday, July 6th 2006, meeting at our hotel in Nottingham, close to Donington GP circuit (evening).
Finish: Monday, July 10th 2006, as we return to Dover at about 5pm.

Confirmed Event Costs:
£599 entry, for 2 people in a standard-sized car. - This will include (but not neccessarily limited to): Hotel accommodation near Donington, Ferry Crossing to Europe, Hotel near Brussels, 8 laps of the Nordschliefe over Saturday and Sunday open sessions, 2 nights accommodation at the Nürburgring and return Ferry Crossing home. There will be at least one evening meal included, and four breakfasts.

We're also looking to include a DVD of proceedings along the event, entertainment and a decent-sized room at each stop for us all to get drunk together. - Additionally, anything else we can blag between now and then will be included. As we promised originally, this is the Tesco's Value brand of driving excursions, so the worse you expect it to be, the more surprised you are when you have a great time! We've done the maths and we know how much money is left after we've paid the bills... It's just a case of how far we can stretch that budget.

This isn't going to be a polished, fancy, supremely organized run, but then you're not paying a 5-figure entry fee and driving Ferraris. I solemnly swear to do the very best I can though! )

Event Application:
By the time you read this, the Apply page on the website will be live. - Go to the page and download the .zip file which constitutes your application pack (no expense spared... absolutely none). This will contain the terms and conditions that you (punter) and us (organiser) will be adhering to, the full application form for the details of you, your passenger and your proposed vehicle. Special dietary requirements, fancy dress, bra size etc etc etc. - If you haven't decided on your car yet, don't worry. We just wanted to start laughing early so we can keep a straight face when we meet you. - We will NEED to know before the end of May in order to arrange logistics on the ferry.

To keep everything above-board, we'll accept entry fee by cheque or bank transfer. Please email with bank details if you wish to use this method. - Cheques should be made payable to: "Scumball"

Closing date for entries will be early in June, but as places are limited, get in as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. If you've got any questions, please feel free to direct them to me on email, or on the Forum if you think they are of interest to everyone...

CHARITY:
New web page also Live, complete with a bit of a bargain... - Have a look.

GALLERY:
Please submit suitable pictures of your Hero-Chariot and I'll stick them in the Gallery.

Thanks for your support, I know there's a lot of people from PH interested... - Bear in mind that, at this stage, we're limiting the run to 60 PUBLIC PLACES... Book early to avoid disappointment.

Cheers,

Omi

Don't want to pi$$ on your party, but in the interests of PHers considering taking part:

 • Who exactly is Scumball run by?

 • Who are people paying their money to and what protection are you offering if the event didn't go ahead for any reason?

The event is run by Jon and Myself... Jon is an established member of various forums and I know that a number of PHers have met him in person when we went out on a Sunday Run in his 360. I'm relatively new to PH, but well known and (dare I say) respected on a number of other boards too - folks have also met me in the flesh and can confirm my shoddy car, yet dazzling good looks! Members with any concerns are free to contact either of us for a chat to confirm our credentials and gain reassurance if that's an issue.

We're doing this for fun. We're not making money off this inaugral event and we're doing a lot for Charity in the process. In order to fully comply with ATOL or ABTA bonding we would have to increase the entry fee drastically, go Limited and thus exlude our target audience wishing to do such a tour in their very ordinary cars for less than 4 figures. - You mentioned this when Scumball was brought up initially, and I realise that PHers have ben stung in the past by a tour that folded. We've carefully planned (hardcore planning for 6 months or more before we even considered setting a price or taking entries) to cover all costs by a slight margin, with absolute minimal outlay before the event. We've successfully negotiated hotel bookings without a deposit payment (in writing, from an international hotel group), and reserved all spaces needed on the Ferry for a minimal deposit.

We've got over 400 mail addresses requesting information (with a few multiple-car teams in there) and 260 forum members - to fill 60 public spaces required to make this float. - I can't imagine being under-subscribed at this point and that would honestly be the only reason Scumball would be called off. Failing an Act of God of course!

Our Disclaimer and Ts&Cs state that in the event of the Run being cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control then all entries would receive a refund on their fee, minus any non-refundable deposits we've paid. (Currently at about a tenner for the ferry!)

I'll direct Jon to this thread and he can see if I've missed anything... We're not out to rip anyone off, and we've done our very best to ensure that in the absolute worst-case scenario nobody would lose a significant figure. *EDIT: We wouldn't be making anything at all either, and would be left with the bill for our Hosting package and possibly a pile of T-Shirts that no-one would need!* - That scenario is seeming much less likely, looking at the number of people who've already downloaded the Application Pack in the hour or so it's been Live!

Again, we'll field all questions if anyone has concerns... We're all about the fun, not making money off innocent Octane Freaks like us!

Fair enough. Thanks for the detailed response.

[anal mode]
You are however providing a packaged tour which should comply with the 1992 Package Travel Regulations to protect people against losing their money in the event of unforseen problems. It also gives people comeback if they don't get what they paid for during the tour or have cause for complaint of any other sort.

As organisers of a tour you should have public liability insurance too.

I (and others) on here organise trips to Europe and we comply with the law, protect people's monies and interests and therefore incur costs doing so. Tours operating outside of the law don't help the cause of those do comply with it.

ted - don't panic, we aren't hiding behind a ltd company, tour participants money is in a trust account and we (I mainly) have enough capital to guarantee everything and comply with the regs stated above.

We are doing this mainly for a laugh, to raise money for good causes, there is little or no money left for me and omi to go squandering so don't panic. It's just what it says on the tin, a budget jolly for the lads (and lasses) at the 'ring.

any questions feel free to ask.

Public liability cover is in place already with Nelson Policies of Lloyds, it would have been very silly of me not to attend to that one given my main occupation and user name. do you want a good deal on yours ted?

Fair enough. Like I say, I do have a vested interest in how tours like this are operated as well as having concerns for PHers parting with their monies.

Have fun.
