Pal (not me, honest!!) has been pulled on the M3/M27 junction (not stopped) letter thru post from brown wrapper car. Plod claims doing 80 whilst reading notes on steering wheel. Usual 'Plead guilty by post/guilty by court appearance or not guilty by court appearance' options offered.

Anybody know the judge's guidelines on points??

Endorsement offence codes for driving licences (printed on endorsement section of licence).

Careless/Inconsiderate driving CD10 = 3 to 9 points depending on the circumstances aggravating the offence.
Also fine up to £1000.

If your were I guess you'll get NO SYMPATHY from me or the courts! If you didn't do it plead not guilty and ask for the evidence so you can form a defence. WHY WOULD YOU BE ACCUSED THOUGH?? Unless.........

...because some cops (not all - sorry madcop etc) are jumped up little arseholes who want to get their ratings up.

One of them tried to do me when I was 17 on a kawasaki AR50 with L plates because a quater of my front L plate had got torn off in the wind. He followed me at 30MPH all the way to the petrol station so I could buy a new one and then to the police station in his car backing up traffic for miles.

Excellent use of resources. This was before they focused their efforts on lasering people doing 30.00025 in a 30.

Oh no, I have to agree with TallChris! Reading/writing whilst driving is exceptionally dangerous and should be dealt with accordingly. If your mate is 'guilty as charged' then he will not get any sympathy from me either.

I posted them at the top of the thread.

expect 3 to 9 points and up to £1000 fine depending on what mitigation he supplies them and how they got out of bed that morning

Its a shame that a judge is influenced by how he feels that morning dont you think?
I thought they were supposed to be fair and unbiased, or am i trying to live in some sort of utopia?

They are supposed to be fair. Thats why there are 3 magistrates sitting as it is unlikely they all got out on the wrong side.

Crown Court judges are just the same as anyone else though, and do sometimes behave in that manner as anyone else who is human does too.

And if he feels the idiot before him that morning has been driving like a twat, trying to read notes/the papers/ whatever, rather than concentrating on the road, isn't he entitled to feel like fining the guy heavily and endorsing his licence ?

Much is made on this page about speeding offences. At least those commiting them do tend to concentrate, so get some sympathy. For others blatently endangering lives, bring them to court.

As for the original contributor, I'm surprised they offer you the choice. Let's make it simple, you accept the offer, it costs £60 + 3pp. You come to court and get found guilty, expect £250+ and 6-8 pp. Insurers also will pay attention to any careless driving conviction, as opposed to an SP30, which is like ar~~holes, everybody's got one.
