So, new flat, built in fridge, only problem is the previous occupants spilt milk inside the fridge at some point and it's run into the seals around the door. One month empty with the door propped open and, well, you get the idea..

Scraped the solid cheese from within the seals, tried cleaning it with allsorts (bicarbonate of soda, cleaner, stronger cleaner etc), eventually resorting to taking the door off and scrubbing it under the sink with a brush, but within a few hours, the cheese smell comes back. About to try diluted bleach, but gather this isn't too good for the seal.

I hate cheese, by the way.

Ideas?

You need to kill the bacteria causing the smell.

Source a set of replacement seals then remove the old ones?

My condolences. This happened to me a while ago, and I seriously considered throwing the fridge out and buying a new one. A tiny hole in a 4pint milk carton dribbled into the door seal and caused an almighty stink.

I used about 3 packets of anti-bacterial wipes and a couple of industrial strength fridge odour eaters. It still took weeks for the smell to go.

Been there, done that, nasty isnt it !

Dettox Mould and Mildew remover. Contains clorine, so be careful with your hands and clothes.

You could also try Milton, the stufff you use to disinfect babies bottles - that is pretty good at removing smells and 'nasties'.
