Did anyone see the 'Sonic Youth Repellent' on the Gadget Show last night? What an utterly marvellous device - turn it on and anyone under the age of 25 is immediately repelled by a loud, annoying sound.

But the best bit is, it's inaudible to folks over 25

Now, where do I get one of these to keep those pesky kids off my garden

Mind you, at £580, it's a tad expensive!!!

Sounds like a bargain! Do they do a portable version - perhaps with a beltclip for use in shopping centres and on hoilidays .

Just imagine going to a bar and turning it on, all of a sudden you will be the only one there (obviously making sure that there is someone to serve you over 25!)

Stupid stupid idea, how long will it be before kids themselves get this device and place them in schools and other places. Society needs to learn how to bring up kids properly, like they did in the past (not rocket science is it). Going postal on them with militaristic 'weapons' like this is a sad direction for society to go down.

Which vision of utopia is that then? i did describe a dystopia however. I made a comparison between today and the past and noted the difference was down to parenting.

At £580 a pop, I doubt they'll be queuing up, besides, being main powered it's not exactly portable.

It seems that society these days is unable to bring up their kids properly (present company excepted of course ) as as I am not a parent, I can't contribute. At least this way, I could keep the little buggers off my garden

I can just imagine it, their ball comes rolling onto my garden, I'm watching at the window (sad git), press the button and see them run with their ears bleeding only joking

They dont bother with things like that up here, they just have classical FM blasting over the tannoys at Metro/Bus stations, in shopping areas and other chav friendly places, seems to keep them away.

That thing last night killed my ears when they turned it on, dogs didn't like it much either, saying that they sing along with anything thats on the tv.

good point, but i do worry about peoples attitudes towards teenagers these days, a lot of kids are good kids that don't hang around on street corners and intimidate people but they are all tarred with the same brush by the masses it seems. Hopefully this market won't keep growing and 'anti-riot' equipment won't be placed everywhere to get rid of 'rowdy' teenagers. I might sound alarmist (to greg_d atleast ), but these days nothing like this surprises me, look at how quickly CCTV has risen and how cheaply it has become.

The population is growing older (and grumpier ) so they can gang up on the young folk because they know the majority of the population will agree with them.

Are you saying you could hear it through the TV? They did warn, but us being the wrong side of 30 (OK, nearly 40) couldn't hear a thing. Have it on Sky+ so will get wife's sisters to listen next time they are over!

Couldn't hear it - and wasn't expecting to as I'm 35 - but did notice a rise in pressure on my ears that didn't go away for about an hour.
