Ok guys. Current exhaust is burst. We've welded it up for the moment, but it won't last very long.

It's a Janspeed that's on just now. Don't fancy another one of them.

What to buy? Not bothered about noise (louder the better maybe) but I want a good fit (no messing about) and I want (fulfilling my Scottish stereotype here) cheap.

Thanks

I was going to say "ELISEPARTS", well made, light, great sound (deeper and less raspy than the JS) but not particularly cheap. There used to be a link to a sound file on their website.

If you want cheap and you don't mind loud then this might be the one for you:

Probably best to order one of these whilst you're at it:

There'll be plenty more recommends along shortly, everyone thinks that their exhaust is best!

Being Ebay, I'm a bit wary of it to be honest. Also dealing with a company in Hong Kong doesn't bode too well should there be a problem.

I think the Eliseparts looks decent, but obviously it's not that cheap. However, at least there's some comeback if there's any probs with it but they have a good reputation. Do you have one? Is it well made/welded etc? Sound quality compared to a Janspeed? How is the Larini for the S1? I've read about probs getting them to fit

Although it is quite pricey I like the Ball and Colvill exhaust. Nice sound and very well made, but as previously said, its quite expensive

Christopher Neil exhaust are good, I have one on my S1, £250 and its loud. They will deliver or you can pop down and pick it up, it was well worth it. I also got a decat pipe for £30 off ebay for that evtra bit of noise.

Hope this helps

I bought a janspeed exige exhaust off ebay for my S1. Less than £100 all in, and its stainless and sounds great. I`d be looking there. Or try asking on the scottish elises forum someone may have something lying around.

Had mine on for a year or so now, absolutely love the sound, it pops and bangs on the overrun below 2000rpm (believe the MEMs allows fueling below these revs to avoid jerky throttle response), deep but not too intrusive at moderate revs and throttle openings but does it scream when you nail it in 2nd or 3rd. Overall deeper, smoother and les raspy than JS; although the 111S with a JS that I heard also had a decat. I was initially worried about alienating the neighbours but they assure me it is distinctive rather than outright loud.

My current driveway is on quite a slope, so ,to avoid the risk of crushing injuries I left the fitting to my local specialist who had no problems with aligning it perfectly with the hole in the clam. The pipes aren't overly fancy, just a plaing square ground finish rather than fany rolled ends, but its an exhaust. Due to my access issues I still have the standard cat fitted at the moment to avoid problems at MOT time. No issues with quality, seem to remember some fancy welding technique was used to smooth out the welds inside the exhaust, it only uses 2 hangars due to its light weight and these look pretty substantial.

Did a lot of looking around before I bought mine and I went for an eliseparts systems. Minimal fecking about fitting it, lighter, louder and just plain nicer than the Janspeed IMHO.

I got a Larini on my S1... it's not the cheapest and to be honest, but I'm in love with the sound.... it's the perfect mix of lairyness when you want and subtlety and quietness when you need

Have some sound files if you require

Yep, Bell & Colvill one is superb. But one of the most expensive. It's a fantastic can though. I think Sinclaires will do you a new S/S Janspeed for around £250 which is a good price I reckon.

If not, stick a wanted up here and on SELOC and see who's selling. IIRC there was a guy on SELOC who put a B&C one on his Sport 160 a couple of weeks ago and it didn't work well (needs to be more free flowing on that variant). He's looking to sell, you might get a deal.

Another vote for the Eliseparts! Brilliant workmanship and a sweet note to boot.

O/T Gruffy...how much did you pay for the interior in your Elise? Looked good at VW. Might need your vinyl expertise as well!

Luckily the sweetest car I drove when I was looking happened to have a great interior. It's not cheap, but you can have any interior retrimmed in alcantara. The seats are the expensive bit. Eliseparts alcantara trim.

Drop me a mail with your vinyl job and I'll sort you out.

whats wrong with the Janspeed noise? I admit it is a bit high-end only and not very bassy, but a sports cat fills that bit of the sound hole in nicely. I love the way it wails at 7000 - sounds more like a little Ferrari V8 than a little Rover four cylinder

I don't mind the Janspeed sound, but I wouldn't rave about it. What puts me off another one is the standard of the exhaust. It has rotted away quickly and looks scabby - all pitted. Have heard similar stories about them on other cars: poor flanges, badly fitted/designed back boxes etc.

Hopefully they'll regain their reputation because they used to be so good.

At the moment, the Eliseparts is the front runner, but when it gets a bit closer to needing replaced, I'll stick up a wanted and see what's on the go.

Mine was on the car from when I got it - not sure how long it had been on before then, but it is at least 3 years old, on a car kept outside. Hopefully mine is one of the good 'uns then!

If you've not made up your mind yet, why don'tcha have a listen to these. It's my S1 with a full Larini system... certainly the best sounding S1 exhaust I've heard and as a modification, it's transformed my little car into something I just LOVE to listen to
