Manual vs Tiptronic

I feel like I am about to open a door and throw a hand grenade inside so I am ready to shut the door quickly ...

I convinced myself I only wanted a manual 996TT, I do very little "town" driving and cannot really see it offers me any advantage. However, in my search for the 'right' TT, there seems to be a HUGE number out there that are tippytronic and it would widen my potential scope considerably if I would consider it?

I have only ever driven manual (TT) as I really didn't think I would consider the tiptronic. What's the opinion here ... am I selling myself short if I consider one or just stay focussed on the "I need a manual gearbox". Anyone owned both?

Tiptronic is good, but on a back road play you'll miss having a manual gearbox. Depends on how you use the car. Somehow the tip on mine (Not TT) just makes me feel less connected to the car.

Spent 2 years looking for a 996 manual and bought the first tip I looked at!!! Of course its personal pref but don't write it off (no pun intended!) before you've driven it. Really like it now in my C4, but of course it'll be different again in a TT!

i thought the tip on the 968 was an utter pile of poo

briefly had a go in a 996C2 with tip, luved it. felt like i was playing "star trek" - great fun.

only one answer - drive a tip TT (if you can find a dealer willing to let you drive it, but thats another thread/story)

I am sure that Paragon [url]www.paragon.gb.com[/url] would be more than happy to let you test drive a tip if they had one (just checked and they dont at the mo!) - they are a friendly bunch there!

I have a 'tippytronic' one for medical reasons (after one manual and one tiptronic 996) and i think it suits the car. OK its not really good on the track but in day to day motoring i'm happy.
