Cayman prices.

Anyone checked how many Cayman there are for sale on Autotrader?50ish cars for sale already when they are supposed to be scarce....Is this the future for Porsche prices?

Scarce-I think not-you can have a new one to your spec in 3 months!

Kayc - all car prices go down; it's a matter of supply vs demand and things wearing out/going out of fashion. You just hope that Porsches depreciate LESS. The 1% of Porsches that don't depreciate are either at the bottom of their price envelope, just launched and scarce as chicken gnashers or rare classics. The speculation bubble for Cayman may have burst already.

Domster..i know all car prices go down..after owning 50 cars in the last 20 years i know they are expensive toys and not investments..having said that i am surprised at how offered these cars are! is it coz they are not as good as everyone imagined they would be?

Car's received nothing but good reviews (even he of Coxster fame was somewhat complimentary). I think the problem is that you can get a lot of car for circa £50k - hec even a 996TT or GT3, 993RS, take your pick of the 993s (barring serious exotica).

Could it be simple economics? Have Porsche pitched the price too high? Perhaps they should have gone for the non-S version first at Boxster-ish money.... or would that take sales away from the Boxster?

I guess we'll find out when the next year's sales figures come out - if Porsche retain their position as 'world's most profitable car manufacturer' then they got it right!

No matter how good a car is, it is still subject to supply and demand. If Porsche made too many of them and priced them too high, they won't fly off the forecourts. Look at the reviews of the 993RS at the time - journos were creaming themselves - and it sold in very small numbers. Whether a car drives well or not merely adds to its desirability, it doesn't define the sales figures. Why do you think the first Vectra was the best selling car in the UK in 1992 or whatever? Not because it got stunning reviews... because it was cheap as chips for a repmobile for fleets that needed a good deal.

Cayman's a great car. But the price will come down and speculation is over by the looks of it.

Hi Dom , I'm bored manning the switchboard here oop north , but will be down in t'smoke next week , will give you a shout...You are right about speculators buying into Cayman and now releasing the cars onto the market , hence the numbers available.

Agreed. I'v seen Cayman's for £59 K - Jesus, you can get a sodding 997 for that. Bonkers.

I don't think the bubble ever started - there is scant evidence any cars went for silly money and plenty of evidence that most speculators are taking a hit.

This will be an amazing car if it happens and sure to get the speculators salivating. However, like the 996GT3RS the prices will probably fall a chunk after a year or two. And I bet Porsche just make it lighter with the same bhp and don't chuck the 997GT3 lump in like they should do

for most the price/benefit does not work on the Cayman and it totally smacks of Porsche marketing (price, power, LSD not allowed)
