Hi,

Ok if I activate BT Broadband on day x, my contract starts from then - yes? So do I have 14 days to cancel the agreement without paying the ETF from x?

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Yeh, but at least it's free to BT

BT broadband the best & for security, so you won't be cancelling

Ours worked (and is now again working).

However one of their 'phone plug filters' failed within six months

and they want £50 for the privelige of an engineer turning up
on the doorstep, to tell me.

a £5 maplins type accessory to replace yourself.

Ok..

Now I have got through, apparently the 7 day cool off period does not start once the product is activated, but on the day you request the service. Which is a bit sneaky. So I have to pay the full contract up front to cancel... Is there any way around this? Does a 14 day cool off period not apply, as per mobile contracts?

I'm with BT and have been from day 1, and have never ever had a problem.

Sure, there are cheaper ones out there, with better offerings, but I'm happy (and secure).

BT are only giving 512k broadband - existing dialup supplier is giving 2mb
BT cap usage at 2gb a month - existing gives 5gb
BT won't host domain - existing already do
BT deal is more expensive at around £40 a year

Paying more, for less. Any way to get out?

Why did you sign up in the first place?

Because under some initiative by the scottish executive/broadband for scotland/highland enterprise, BT pledged to have all rural communities up and running with broadband by the end of 2005. The catch was that you had to have your connection with BT as they were the wholesalers and this was the only way they could guarantee to get their investment back for setting up the exchange for a tiny number of users. However I have since discovered this is not the case, and I can get a better deal elsewhere, but I don't appear to be able to get out of the BT contract as their 7 day cool off period starts on the day you place the order, not the day they activate the service.
