Can anyone help with information detailing reinstating the oil pump? I am in the process of changing the timing cover and water pump gaskets and all the components have now been removed, sump, timing cover, crankshaft pulley and exhaust. The problem is that on a serpentine engine the oil pump is modified. I have read the bible and have details of the two approaches described, one with Vaseline and the other forcing oil into the pump. Are these methods still valid for the later engines or is there a better approach? Thanks in advance for all of your help.

For the serpentine engine see pages 44/45 on oil pumps and serpentine engines. Totally different from the early ones.

Sorry Steve
I have the Mk1 edition so will have to wait for the new version to be delivered before I can uncover the delights of pages 44/45. I guess the question is do I need Vaseline or not???? I do hope the TVRCC do not take too long to deliver the goods!!

it more than likely says it in the bible but make sure you put the outer oilring in the right way up!

The pumps tend to self prime pretty well but packing with vaseline is not going to do any harm and will help get the oil pressure going.
