Last year after many years of contemplating buying a Cerbera i took the plunge.I bought an early 96 4.2 in purple reflex tuscan race cams fitted, and with the gorgeous 18inch spiders fitted.I can honestly say that performance exeeded my expectations, and it really is a genuine supercar even wih a few niggles the car has suffered im in no ways dissapointed, but what isnt the same is the sound and the fact that the Chimaera was a more managable car even as an every day drive.Whilst at VW on sunday the sound of so many V8,s burbbling away my heart got stirring, ive decided that if i do in the future sell the Cerbera then i will return the to the Chimaera, but this time it will be a 5ltr in light metallic blue.

Jeez Blue, doesn't look like you are short of motors to play with, but being a newbie to the Chim, i can immediately share your sense of loss and grief I'm keeping mine!

I'm seriously considering trading my Chim 500 for a Cerb 4.5 but I'm also concerned that I'm gonna miss that big old burbler of a V8. It's not an easy decision but I am tempted by the extra power and I personally think that the Cerb is the most handsome of the TVRs.

Isn't the 4.2/4.5 Cerbera not a V8?

Plane crank AJP8 rather than knobbly RV8 crank though: which means it sounds crap at low revs around Virginia Water. BUT it sounds fantastic at 7000 rpm...where an ordinary RV8 would fear to tread.

Do it!

I had a Chim (okay 4.0L) with no PS and bought a Cerb 4.5. Do I miss roof off motoring? Nope. thought I would but don't. The noise of a properly warmed AJP decatted and sports pipes is so so much better than a RV8 - it's like sex.

Drove Bomber Denton's Chim 500 a few months back, it's a lovely well cared for example, but was positively agricultural in comparison.

That's why we're attacking Le Mans in my Cerb not his Chim this year.

To be honest, the other thing thats making me think twice about it is the reliability issue and the cost of keeping a Cerb on the road. I asked for advice on the Cerb forum and a few owners said to expect much higher running costs and to expect things to go wrong with the Cerb, it put me off a bit but I am still considering it.

Any one moving from a Chimaera will have to expect higher running costs,i can say that so far that most of the problems ive had have been niggly bits, but i do miss th.e sound of that RV8 and the fact that if things did go wrong then they wasnt that dear or to specialist to repair or replace.
