Engine Mount

Hi all,i've recently been getting a bit of an underside contact noise which is a subtle clunking type sound.The noise only starts after the car warms up,and it appears that on closer inspection,the downpipe is just making contact with the chassis once the engine mounts(particularly the n/side)have warmed and softened up.Although the engine mount appears to be in perfect condition,i would like to replace this now,as a matter of course, when i finally replace my manifolds and 'y' piece with my shiny new de-catted s/steel items(at long last!),next Tuesday.I've heard a bit about varying quality of new engine mounts,as the originals are no longer available?Does anyone have any experiences to share on this,as i dont want to replace my mount with one thats only going to cause problems with short life expectancy.Is it an easy job,bearing in mind the manifold and downpipe will be off?

Hi Mike
I took my old mounts to a bushing specialist and they stripped the rubber and moulded hardened neoprime to the metal,its worked a treat,we also have the same on one of the chev powered race cars(use's exisistng mounts) and theyve been going strong too.

I changed mine in October last year, I could see one was slightly worn( it had cracks on it,some pics in my cars profile ) from above and the other one looked ok. Anyhow the one that looked ok was probably infact the worse one as it had split length ways down it on the side not easily seen.
I got a set off E-bay, from a guy who sells for morgan parts aswell. RPI have some for £45 at the moment that look a spitting image of my original ones RPI MOUNTS

Mine sheared completely on the left one, and the top pulley ate through the swirl tank neck the engine was moving so much. When I replaced the mount it was very clearly melted. The replacements I got were not originals, but I am having the pipes ceramic coated, and may wrap the mount in heat insulation just to be on the safe side in future.
