Hi everyone! Thinking about getting a webcam for the PC. Using it for MSN messenger only really (unless there are other uses?!!)

What am I looking for? Are the £8-10 jobbies any good?

Help! Thanks

To project an image without worrying about quality the cheap ones are fine.

If you were looking for a more surveillance based webcam then the D-Link range are pretty damned good.

Just looking to project an image - so I'll probably go with one I like the look of most!

Thanks for both your replies!

I got a dirt cheap one from ebay and it's fine for MSN, not too hot in the dark mind you. It's the one with 6 LEDs on if you go hunting round.

I use the eyetoy of the ps2 as a webcam, it's not bad and has a built in microphone

The basic rule is to look for one with a proper CCD not a CMOS imaging chip. No matter how fantastic they claim their CMOS sensors are, they aren't anywhere close.

Philips toucam are very good. If you can get the old 60fps one then even better.
