2nd gear on a 996 tt
Discussion
And mine! I heard someone at rennlist saying that changing the gearbox helps and thats what I did and it improved a bit. The only way it will be at 95% is by lubricating the gearbox main shaft with copper grease (the one that engages on the clutch), with time and clutch dust this shaft makes the clutch bearing operation (sliding) more difficult and it won't fully disengage the clutch making the 2nd gear (the most noticeable) a bit notchy the problem is that the cost of doing this makes economically better to replace the clutch once the gearbox is out...
You've probably got just enough torque to go from 1st to 3rd whilst the engine is cold
Irrelevant to current discussion but 1st to 2nd is sticky and reluctant in my 993 when the oil is cold as well. I don't rev the engine past 3k until the oil's warmed up, probably best to take the same approach to the gearbox i.e. don't rush shifts until the gearbox oil is warm

I have been led to believe that the syncromesh on 2nd gear is heavier duty then on the other gears because it is the most used gear. A slightly notchy change should only be apparent when cold. If 2nd gear was as smooth as the other gears when cold then there is a problem. Not trying to be clever but just what I am told!!
