Hi all,

I am planning a driving holiday through Europe this summer (end of August) with the main aim of visiting some of my wife’s favourite areas of Switzerland (and if we are lucky maybe getting some skiing in on a glacier), in total we were thinking of about 5 days in Switzerland – out of a max 14 days.

Thing is I want to try and make sure we pick up some nice scenic areas / routes etc on the journey in and out of Switzerland. Obviously we could either go down through France or through France & Germany but I am not sure what is best. We have done it once before but we didn’t plan it, we just explored and although that was fun at the time we just don’t have that much available time for this trip, so I don’t want to waste time searching for nice areas.

Does anyone have any experience of doing a similar run? Any tips on routes, villages, hotels worth seeing? Don’t mind sitting on the odd motorway to help take out big chunks of the journey if I am heading somewhere nice (although a roads are always preferred!).

Thanks for you help.

Matt

You'll prbably get more help if you can identify which are the key areas your and your wife wish to visit.

The road between Martigny and St Gervais , the N506 , is a very scenic and interesting alternative route from the South of Switzerland heading west across to Geneva and then France.

Cheers,

Tony

Have no preference whatsoever, just need to get to Geneva eventually to start the Swiss leg of the journey. Not really into massively busy cities, prefer the countryside, quiet villages, rural pubs, rivers, lakes etc

As I say though not too fussed as long as it is sort of heading in the right direction i.e. Switzerland (or back out), any and all suggestions welcome!

I'd go to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District then.

Aye and t'lad can go to Little Switzerland in Yorkshire at Howstean Gorge. That's all he needs.
