hi gang,

I'm writing a project about forensic science and criminology, and I'm going to get the kids to undertake a series of experiments to rescue a 'kidnapped victim'. Each cypher/ test/ experiment will reveal a different clue, which I'm thinking will form into a set of grid co-ordinates or a postcode, which can then be entered into google earth to reveal a picture of the final location. does anyone know of anywhere suitably exciting/ atmospheric, or some postcode that shows a picture of someone seemingly up to no good, etc? for instance, it might well be that the picture you know of might have people/ places featured in it that could be used for dramatic purposes.

or... we could use some landmark for a final clue, for instance a building with a number on top that could then open a safe/ be a telephone number that reveals the location of the kidnappers.

id appreciate any thoughts you might have, rather than me actually scouring the globe to find somewhere suitable. i hope this makes a little sense.

thanks good people

I think you need to make it a bit more interesting than that Nervous. How about we lock you in a casket then bury it underground and the kids have to find it before your air runs out.

I'm actually going to have a big clock running the whole time and tell them that the person is buried somewhere with air running out. or maybe the number can be the combination to a bomb or something. not all that sure i actually want to lock myself in the box though. though i understand completely why you'd want me locked in a box running out of air

The chalk man with the big cock, is near Cerne Abbas in Dorset (north of the village IIRC) - couldn't see it last time on Google Earth last time I looked...

Howdy Nerv!

How's about using the location where you'll be with the kids? Perhaps you could hide 'treasure' in a nearby location and have the kids dig it up?

[injokealert]I'd suggest using enlarged photocopies of fivers [/injokealert]

You're often (maybe twice) posting and asking for information on interesting topics that you intend to use in your work

what is it that you do?

i work for a government agency that looks to encourage kids to become scientists, technologists, engineers or mathematicians by use of innovative and exciting projects. i write 'em and then deliver 'em. its fun.

Sounds brilliant, very rewarding

Quick thought; planes have numbers on them.....as a final twist, they have to identify the route the plane is travelling on and exactly where it is according to the amount of time they have taken to solve the problem......too evil?
