OK

I know a lot of you will do this

But it drives me nuts. When in a restaurant, bar etc - people these days seem to use the irritating American phrase "Can I get XYZ" instead of "I'd like XYZ". Whenever I hear someone say those words I have to fight the urge to say "Yep, sure, off you go then."

This thread has been appearing a lot recently and I wholeheartedly agree with banishing the "can I get" crowd to Coventry or, even better, Hull.

My pet hate is people who, when they want you for something, come over to you and say "What it is is...".

Firstly, when responding as to what assistance they required, I didnt ask "What is it?" and secondly, even if I had, the reply is not "What it is is".

Yeah, it really annoys me when I hear that too. I wish they would just beat it.

what annoys me is pedants who get hot under the collar when someone uses a phrase, i mean can i get some sane people here, what it is is people who have too much time on their hands. this thread= done to death.

Even better than: 'Can I get...' and often used is 'I need a...' One of the guys we lunch with occasionally says this amongst other silly things*

I need a big mac, large fries and a coke.

NO NO NO! Travis, You dont NEED any of it!

*tried to tell me the (current shape DC5) Integra engine is the same as the Accord engine as they both are rated at 200hp! Although, the Integra is a 2.0 and the Accord a 2.4!

calverton has the highest proportion of inbred serial killers to inhabitants, hence the low crime rate.

A salesman where I work starts every sentence with "Basically,..."

And whenever he comes into my office to ask me something, he always apologises first; "Sorry, Gaz, can I get..."
