Bit of help required please chaps.

Appears like the master cylinder piston is permanently 3/4 of the way down.
The actuator rod has a good 15/20mm of play in it before it hits the piston.
I presume this means new seals or cylinder? Unless anyone knows any way of freeing it up? Or could it just need bleeding but i cant see that would be it.

Tks in advance

Maybe the return spring has gone in the master cylinder. The spring in the MC should return the piston to rest regardless of what is going on with the clutch.
If it were mine I would change the MC and the slave cylinder seal too whilst you are at it.

I have a Chim so it may well be a little different to a Griff but it was not a bad job to do. The only problem I had was that whoever did the MC pipe union up(all original) must have had hands like elephants feet. It was so tight it flared the end of the pipe wider than the thread of the cylinder which made getting the pipe out a harder than it needed to be.

Hopefully the same chap was on holiday when they fitted the MC on your car

The bottom bolt was a bit awkward but IIRC I used a socket > 1/2D U/J > 10" ext > ratchet. I wrapped insulation tape on the U/J so it stayed almost straight which meant I could aim it at the bolt without it dropping. I seem to remember an extra pair of hands came in handy when it came to doing the nuts up.

Derek, if you need someone to come and watch and drink tea, give me a shout.
Ok, you can borrow the hands too if you must.

If it wasn't the same guy that done mine he must've been replaced with a Gorilla, had the same problem

Thanks for the tips & warning i would probably have rounded it if you hadn't said..

New tip for anyone else, the bottom bolt might or might not be glued if not a 3/8 drive, short extension then U/J taped at right angles then long extension reaches it

You can even do this bolt without assistance if your helper is to hung-over to get out of bed

Nearly forgot make sure you have a 1/2" open ended ring/pipe spanner

No mate, replaced the slave a few months ago only to find it was a pin hole in the pipe that was causing the fluid loss not the slave

Glad to hear you got it sorted, at least you should not have any problems in that area for a while
