Tip of the day!

Forgot to say earlier, but on the brands day when I was fitting Alex S's video cam into my cockpit, I realised that you can rotate the rear view mirror through 180 degrees and in doing so, raise it by an inch and a half. Its great for us taller folks. No more ducking to see under it when turning left, and the view with vid cam is much better too.



I am still waiting for a bright spark (or Broad) to come up with a "mini" mirror that sits a lot higher and is about 6" x 1" so that all you can see is the bit thats actually of use and not the roof and parcel shelf too!



Anyway, I hope this information is of use.

Being 6'4" I had the same mirror problem. Solution was to take the mirror off and after prising the ball out of its socket on the back of the mirror, I was left with the mirror mount which has a vertical section, a right angle bend, and the ball. I cut the ball off and then discarded the right angle bend (second cut). I then drilled and tapped (3 mm) into the end of the vertical section and also drilled and tapped into the ball. These were then screwed directly together, the ball pressed back into the mirror (use a vice with a piece of wood to spread the load) and then the mirror mount re fixed to the screen (Ford pads at 70p are great) upside down. This means the part of the mount that used to point down now points backwards and the top edge of the mirror is now aligned with the roof. The mirror itself stays the right way up so the 'Dipping' function is unaffected. The view accross the rear deck is at a much better angle to see following traffic (not that there should be anything close behind a Noble of course!!)Bit of effort but worth it

Do I recall someone fitting a relacement mirror that's wider - I've always found the stock one cheap-and-nasty?!

Some Japanese ones (Honda Civic?) are double ball jointed and therefore height adjustable. They are about the same height but wider. I find you can see the wing pillars with the standard mirror so didn't need anything wider though, just higher. Also they are bonded to the screen differently, a small piece if metal is first 'glued' to the screen and then the mirror is attatched to that. I actually broke a screen, after looking round for ages in a scrapyard, getting one off to try it and decided I didn't want the same bonding / attatchment arrangement on the Noble. If you want to try modding the standard one there are loads in the scrappies on Fiestas / Escorts (Mondeos are different)
