997 Carrera S - Factory fit Options

Guys,

I need to finalise my specification for a new 997 S coupe (delivery in May).

So far I have: Basalt black; Sat/Nav; phone; adaptive sports seats; sport chrono; Carrera classic wheels with colour centres; Bose; sun roof; dimming mirrors; heated seats; cruise control; CD changer; Multi function steering wheel.

They are going to throw in the car mats FREE (£187 normally)!

What I need to know is should I stretch for the Sports Exhaust and Short shift gerchange?

I wanted the PCCB but at over £5k they don't look good value.

This is my first Porsche and I have saved years for it so I want to get it right.

Does anyone know how I could get DAB radio and link my i-Pod to it? I bet these will be fixed in "next years model"!

Sports exhaust - yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!

IPod link - try the Denison website, they do a range of connection options but not sure if it stretches to DAB...

Ditch the sports chrono (nasty dial in the middle of the dash) and the adaptive seats. I'd go for regular sports seats, but going for non-sports ones isn't likely to be a problem come resale.

I'd also ditch the satnav and put a third-party one in, it saves so much money and I'm *very* dubious as to whether it's going to affect residuals. It depends on how long you plan on keeping it. If it's going to be with you for a while, then be aware that the old model satnav ( "PCM1" ) no longer has updated maps available, so everyone who spent £2k on that now needs a TomTom anyway.

Cruise control? On a Porsche?

Nice choice (I went for Atlas Grey, but Basalt was my second choice - no doubt you will get some abuse on here for not buying Guards red or Speed yellow...!!)

Definitely, I've gone for both of these (having experienced them on the test drive). If you get rid of the sports chrono and the sun roof, you can add the Sports exhaust without costing you any extra money !

I was in the same position!!

I hope you make the right choices, the main problem is you have 3 months to wait for your car. I've only got 4 weeks to wait for my first Porsche and it is agony !!

I've got Bose in mine but think that it's over rated and I find the bass a bit over the top at normal listening volumes. Sports exhaust is a must though.

Definately get the sports shift it's magic, even though the standard throw is shorter than a 996. Not just my opinion, but also two instructors I spoke to on a 997s launch day. A pleasure to use.

How about little personalising touches? Stainless door entry guards, rear console in body colour/aluminium finish, white instrument dials, etc.? I personally find those more interesting than sat nav and the like.

All this talk of 997s has got me browsing the OPC website, which can only lead one place...

I just fantasy-specced my ideal 997S. Came to £71,700, without satnav. Please God, don't let me visit a dealership at the weekend to find out how much the finance might be. Please. Pretty please.

Great news! White instrument dials are standard on the S. Just think of the money you've saved.

I think silver dials are standard, with Carrera White ones being another 392 quid. And as we know, white is the new silver so white dials it will have to be.

satnav is a must for resale IMHO (well I wouldn't buy one without it)

sports exhaust a no-brainer

don't get ali/painted console - looks cheap and ali is just painted plastic (leather looks great however)

And I wouldn't buy one with it!! I certainly wouldn't pay ANY more over the price of a non-satnav vehicle, not a penny. So if you spec it, that's £2k flushed away straight away.

fair enough Mike, each to their own but the 997 looks identical whether you have it or not. Non-PCM cars will command less second hand as most people want it. Certainly an OPC will use it as an excuse to devalue your car.
