Ok well this is my first post so be gentle...
Just entered the realms of Chimera ownership (shook hands on Monday) and picking up this Saturday (so can't sleep, work, eat for thinking about car).
Haven't added car to profile yet (not on broadband) but the car is on Fernhurst's website (the only 500 in the prepared vehicles section and it says sold-whoopee!) Its got a fast road camshaft and frankly is all a bit frightening at the moment as all previous cars were SLOW (Mg Midget, Uno, Metro...) I'm only 24 so insurance is, ahem, steep however.
Two quick questions:-
1) Any events that I should get myself too this year?? (Car based near Guildford)
2) Did I make a mistake by not buying the Tuscan listed at £18k on Fernhurst's website

Hello, Welcome.

There's talk of a national Chimaera meet this year so keep an eye out for that. There are regular regional PH meets go check them out on the regional forums. If you're into motorsport come to one of the TVR Tuscan Challenge rounds (blatant plug as I'm racing a Chimaera in the invitation class) the Chimaera pages for details ( www.chimaerapages.com ) Also join the TVRCC and go to their regular regional meets.

As for the Tuscan...no, you did the right thing, its missing 2 cylinders, V8 is the way.

Regards
Iain

hello and welcome,

Once you have your Chim you'll realise you made the right choice

Join the TVRCC and get along to some meets and look forward to the sunny weather for the ultimate TVR experience but make sure you get the roof off.

OH

Nah! only joking!

Chim's a good start into the world of TVR.

Sound, sensible, usually reliable and affordable.

DON'T go mad when it's yours, take it easy until you get used to the power. Otherwise it WILL BITE YOU! big time.

Safe driving and keep it shiny side up.

Have to say, dude, lovely car. I'd considered her before i bought mine down at Fernie's 2 weeks ago. Would have, but do a lot of in town driving, so a 500 with racing cam.....ummm...?

The best thing you can now do, other than being on here, and keeping it easy with the loud pedal for a bit is to get yourself on a ride-drive course. Don't want to scare, but these cars demand the utmost respect, as i'm sure you've figured from these forums. I'm doing mine in the next week, and can't wait, especially after the tank slapper i had this weekend, after 2.5 cummulative years of ownership!! Scary stuff.

Anyway, enjoy, you absolutely made the right choice.

Thanks for all your replies guys. Have joined the TVRCC so hopefully should get to a few events this summer.
Will be VERY wary of car to start with as have been informed if I stack it this year then insurance next year will be a total impossibility. Even on test drive didn't venture beyond 4000 (reached my limit at that point)
Rob- Thanks for the nice comment about the car. For me this is basically going to be a weekend fun toy so the hairy cam was less of an issue. Took a standard Griff out as well and it felt flat and rough in comparison above 2000. Could you let me know what driving course you are going on. Any recommendations in this area from other PH'ers? Are there any that genuinely affect insurance?

Lovely looking car! Another top example from Fernies!!
Fast road cam eh?? Very nice, have just had one fitted to my 450! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!

You should try and get down to the Ace Cafe for the Middx TVRCC meets (first Fri of each month 1930 onwards). We also go to the Mid Essex meets second sunday of each month (This Sunday) great bunch and a great venue for Sunday lunch!!
Enjoy!!

This is particularly true at the moment with all the ground-in salt making damp roads very slippy.
