Panel Inside Paint - Color Match or Black

I am setting up to paint the insides of the body panels and thinking about the color. Has anyone painted with a matching color on the inside? Would doing so make for a brighter outside hue (rather than painting with black)?

Hi Scott. Ray (you met him at the October meet last year) has powder coated his interior panels in satin black. The photos look really good.

Scott - I just realized you were talking about the GRP body panels, not the aly panels.

Forgive my mistake. I painted mine using a 3M rubberized black paint - no idea what the difference is if you don't do this, or do it in a different colour.

Hey Craig,

Have you been motoring about in your sweet GTR lately? We've had 10" of snow this weekend, so even the Impala stays in the garage.

That 3M rubberized paint is what I purchased, too. Right now, I am thinking paint with red first, then the rubber undercoat. If shining a light from inside the body pannel, it's obvious that there are some variations in the transmitted light...maybe 30%. Maybe the red first would help...or maybe it just doesn't matter with the black undercoat.

I'd paint it red, then follow it up with black semi gloss.
I had some light gelcoat spots too. After painting only with black I had a few darker spots showing.

Hi Scott,
You sent me an email about this, but I misunderstood your question. I think a better idea here, since your going to paint the bodywork, is to paint the inside whatever color you want and on the outside you can go with a light shade on the primer sealer (which you'll more than likely be using on a bc/cc paintjob). Or a light color primer. I did this with my silver. You'll get a brighter color as you mentioned. This is done all of the time. If you use a black or dark sealer then the base coat comes out darker. No you know, you can also go with a red or whatever color sealer you prefer so that scratches and nicks don't show as much. If your going to just use the standard gelcoat finish provided, then I would definitely paint the inside of the GRP a matching color. Maybe a few shades brighter if you wanted to lighten it up further.

I had heard that black undercoating will darken the surface. Was not sure if that was true, ...but just in case!!!
