Does anyone have any favourites:

One of mine is:

'Give man a fire he is warm for a day, set a man on fire he is warm for the rest of his life'

Some more I like are:

'If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.'
'Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.'
'The sooner you fall behind, the more time you'll have to catch up.'
'Everyone has a photographic memory, some just don't have film.
When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.'
'99% of lawyers give the rest a bad name.'

Anyone else got any good maxims??

Getting behind with your work earlier gives you more time to catch up.

For a start...

Qui bono? (Who benefits?)
Aut viam inveniam aut faciam. (Either I find a way or I make one)
For every beautiful woman there is a man wishing she'd quit complaining.
There are two ways to stay warm; gathering wood for a large fire, or sat by a small fire

Regards
Iain

I thought this was a thread on early machine guns, and was about to quote some imperialist poetry by Hillare Belloc:

"Whatever happens we have got
The Maxim gun, and they have not!"

Not strictly a maxim, but a good motto:
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

As a PhD student in my lab recently pointed out:

"it's all b0llocks really!"

I've been applying this maxim (or should that be aphorism) to every difficult life/work situation and it always applies.... genius!

Like that idea.

What goes around comes around.
