Dashboard 4. and early 500s

Does anyone know if the early 500 dash board is the same as the 4. dash board. ie in term of of dial sizes etc.

The layout looks the same.

Yes,the gauge sizes are the same,or as near as dammit anyway.The very last type of speedo,is a whisker smaller than the pre-cat type in diameter,but most difference is in the bezel relly.The depth of the pre-cat speedo is greater by 10mm at a guess.If you wanted to convert from pre-cat to later gauges i can't see why you would have a problem.
Just in case your wondering,i have some new pre-cat and late type gauges in front of me,but i dont have a vernier or similar to measure with!!

I was not looking at changing the guages, more along the line of replacing the walnut veneer dash as mine is cracked on the passenger side corner around the air vent

The instrument layout differs between the two - but that's just a matter of appearance. In the precat the small guages to the left of the rev counter are in a dog leg arrangement, not in an arc, as in the 500. Compare two pics in the classifieds to see what I mean. The difference that might catch you out is that the precat guages sit flush with the dash surface - the bezels do NOT butt up against the dash so the bezels sit proud as in the 500s. My Leven dash was designed for the precat but the holes were ever so slightly too small diameter for the guages to fit flush as standard. So I modified the instrument brackets to allow the instruments to sit as though the bezels butted up against the dash (which because the holes were fractionally too small they just about did). Thing is, I don't know if the holes between the precat and 500 dashes are the same with the instrument bezel varying, or whether the difference is in the diameter of the holes in the dash. HTH - even if it clouds the previous answer to your question!!

Grifter I thaught the same as you about the dash and dog leg.....

then I had a look in the bible and guess what, the early 500's have the dog leg like the pre-cats... hense why I asked the question

I always thoguht the early Griff Speedo and Rev Counter are smaller, certainly look it.
