Toyota Running in procedure
Discussion
The topic is to some extend controversial.
The dealer told me till 3000rpm the first 100 miles, then 3500 the next 100 and so on to 5000 around 500 mls
then progressively to 6200 with a few spot on the second came till 1000 mls and the first maintenance.
It seems that the running in oil is too thin for sustained hard use. And this BORING way is the way I did it. As you can imagine the way back from the first oil change made me discover a new dimension to the car I had not tested prior ordering
According to the lotus book and users opinions, you can go more quickly to 5000 rpm and hit after 100-150 mls the second came
but not to 8000 or the red light.
I am not sure it would be a lot different for such a engine but I always prefer the carefull way... The dealer can retrieve the 10 top RPM with oil temp and mileage. In case of trouble these data could invalidate the warranty in case of (very) bad use....

There is an extract of an article by one of the lotus technicians on exiges.com confirming the procedure.
Basically no more than 6000 rpm until 600 miles then you can (and should) use full cam for brief periods on every run. Brief is the key word. Take it to about 7000 rpm then back off
If you don't use the second cam at all the pistons won't bed in properly.
I did this and the dealers confirmed it had been properly run in when I had the aftercare service.

So what do they tell Toyota Corrola drivers to do?? It is a standard toyota engine is it not??
Yes its a standard toyota sport engine, but with their own(lotus) ecu? mapping so best hope it does not run to poor on petrol, but I guess its ok because toyota will not tolerate a wrong ecu on their engine's because of the good yota name...
lucky stuart...few days and counting
