keep my boxster '01 2.7 or move to a '99 3.2S?
Discussion
Hi all,
I own a 2001 model 2.7 and I do like the car. A couple of things bother me though which has led to me to look at 3.2's. First is the colour of existing motor, I liked it when I bought and now I don't (yes yes I know I should not be so het up on colour etc). Second is the power, it doesn't have the torque of my old 944 S2 and I like 3rd gear grunt.
So today, I viewed and drove a 3.2S. Perfect colour combo, right miles etc. A '99 model so although it has an amp, bigger wheels, extra speakers, CD slots, traction etc etc it doesn't have eleccy boot/bonnet releases and the windows don't automatically go up after the roof is raised, no trip comp (think I can live without those though!). I like the car alot and think I could afford to do a decent trade. The '99 S in a bit tattier round the edges than my 2.7 but overall its a decent motor, slightly lower miles too.
So should I plump for the extra grunt of the 3.2?
The 6 speed box took some getting used to at first, I initially selected 6th instead of reverse!
So which would you choose? Are there any good write up's to hand on the S compared to the 2.7?
Thanks

Hmmm, would also be reluctant to go for an older S. What sort of prices are we talking?
My current 2.7 motor is an '01 model registered 2000. 86k on clock, fairly good spec, leather, air, bodywork ok, interior spot on... Reckon I could sell it quickly for 14.5? Maybe more in the spring?
'99 3.2S is one of the first, average miles, bodywork great, no chips. FMDSH/all bills etc, my fave colour scheme, interior/alloys need minor tidying (newer pork doesn't seem to age as well as the older ones!). Looking to pay around 17....

I have owned a 2001 Boxster S and I loved it.
However, I don't think that changing your car for an (older) S is worth it.
I would wait 2 years at which point the new shape 987 S will be 30 grand, even from an OPC, possibly less in a private sale. This car has 280 BHP and a much better interior. Looks better too. Has the glass rear screen. Get a loaded one with nav, big wheels, phone etc, you will be in clover.
