I've got a .mp4 clip I want to put on my psp, how do i do it?
I know I create a "MUSIC" file for music but can't find anything to put movies on (I'm using a MAC)

I have got a link at home to a page that tells you how to do this - you need to put it in the 100mv01(or similar?) directory. If you can wait until Wednesday, I will dig it out for you. If not if you do a search on google for "PSP video conversion" you will find some step by step guides.

use the program PSP video 9 and it will do it all for you, its nice and easy or if you want to do it yourself, explore the MS and there should be two main folders, PSP and MPROOT open up mproot and then the folder 100MNV and place the mp4 file and the thumbnail file into it. remember the file name has to be something like 100001MNV.MP4 NOT the name of the file itself.

also, just because a file is .mp4 doesnt mean that it will automatically play on the PSP. It has to be in the right screen size and within certain frame rates. As mentioned already, best bet is to download PSP Video 9 for free and follow the steps on there. It can convert most video types into PSP format for you. If you are looking to convert a DVD for the PSP, then use something like DVD Decrypter to create a file and then PSP Video 9 to convert that. Bear in mind that a decent (ie watchable in terms of both sound and vision) compressed Film will be around the 350-500Mb size and take approx an hour to go through the entire process (depending on your machine).

I think there are probably dozens of threads on this if you google the topic and as the PSP becomes more popular someone, somewhere will develop an all in one DVD to PSP tool.

Videos need to go in a special folder on the card that isn't there from the off, or even after it's formatted on the PSP.

The mp4 file also needs to contain the metadata for the video and as some have mentioned be in the right codec to play (the PSP will be happy to change the resolution and aspect ratio for you).

If you want, you can send me the mp4 file and I'll get it ready (if it needs it) for the PSP.

If you think it's ok to play already (won't hurt if it's not), then:
[windowz]
Hook PSP to PC.
Switch on USB mode of PSP.
Wait for PC to allocate a drive.
Explore drive of the PSP
create the directories new directories (it keeps removing the windows back-slash):
[PSP]:/MP_ROOT
[PSP]:/MP_ROOT/100MNV01
rename the video file in a PSP format hich is M4V[number].mp4. e.g. M4V00001.MP4
Copy M4V00001.MP4 (or whatever) to [PSP]:/MP_ROOT/100MNV01
if you have a thumbnail for it, copy that too (rename so file is the same name but ends in .THB (I [t]think not sure off the top of my head).
Stop USB drive on PC.
Stop USB mode on PSP.
Goto memorycard part of the video menu on PSP.
The video should now have an icon and name
Select the video and play.

[linux]
Hook PSP to PC.
Enter USB mode on PSP.
know what scsi device the PSP masquerades as then
shell$ mount /dev/[PSP] /mnt/PSP
e.g. for me
shell$ cd ~
shell$ mount /dev/sda4 /mnt/PSP
shell$ mkdir /mnt/PSP/MP_ROOT
shell$ mkdir /mnt/PSP/MP_ROOT/100MNV01
shell$ cp M4V00001.mp4 /mnt/PSP/MP_ROOT/100MNV01/M4V00001.mp4
shell$ umount /dev/sda4
Get out of USB mode on PSP.
Follow last instructions above.

[mac]
no idea!
Sorry, I just realised this is what you are using!
If you can hook the PSP to the Mac via USB and create the directories above on it, the rest is the same.
