I just signed in to post some details about my “Dutch Jolly” but have already been beaten to it! :-) Seems like the best idea would be to update this topic.

Gunmetal, I am still visiting however there has been a slight change in the plans. Its been brought forward a few days to tie in with the Dutch uni holidays, so I’m travelling out this Saturday (18th) and staying until the following Thursday (23rd). I’ve also decided not to bring a car since I’ve never driven abroad before and don’t know my way around. So, unfortunately I don’t have a spare seat if someone was looking for a ride.

First part of my trip will be near Wierden as I have a party to go to and need to catch up with some friends. Then, I am staying in Utrecht on the 21st and 22nd (Tuesday and Wednesday night). I’m meeting Dinkel on the 21st for an evening out, however on the 22nd I will most likely be checking out the bars in Utrecht. If anyone is going to be around that evening, then a free beer will be waiting for you. :-D

I’m actually coming over to look for some work too. I used to come to Holland a lot a couple of years back (Dutch Girlfriend – long story…, however just lately I’ve really missed the place and fancy living there for a bit. I will be wandering around the city all day on the 22nd, so if anyone works in the city and fancies a spot of lunch with a Brit, then just say the word.

I'll be in Utrecht one of the nights you mentioned as my girlfriend lives there and i still live in Rotterdam. Maybe we can arrange a get together, if we meet on the evening of the 21 or perhapse the 22nd (i'm not sure i'll be free that evening) in Utrecht i can take you to the guy's in Alphen (gunmetal, cantus, infinity, etc.) and have a beer and i'll take you to Utrecht again after.

Hi Bernard,

Thanks for your kind offer! My only free night is going to be the 22nd (Wednesday), so I'm not sure if you are going to be free then or not. I obviously don't want to put anyone out! If you do have other plans for that night then please don’t rush around etc!

If you find out that you are free, then just say the word and I will meet you at any station in the area if you did fancy a couple of beers. Same goes to the rest if the Wedgers out there too. If it turns out you're busy, then I'm sure I will be in Holland again shortly!

Thanks again,

Dan.

Digga ,your right about the driving ,I worked in Rotterdam for a few weeks going back a few years .It does take a little adjustment and if your only going for a few days, you dont'want to miss anything while struggling to get around. The trains and logistics are great. Have a goodtime, the beer and people are great too!

Thanks Beacon,

You're right about the train system - they really are good in my opinion. Even the smallest towns have a station and most routes seem to have a minimum of 2 trains an hour. Even the cost isnt bad either - To get from one side of the country to another costs me about £16. By comparasion, it used to cost me £44 to get a return from Ipswich to London :-| (Are you reading this Mr Brown...).

And I can assure you that many beers will be consumed. Be rude not to! ;-)

Thats ok Bernard, thanks for trying anyway. As you say, next time... I may try to make it to Zolder this year too, so perhaps will see you there?

I'm going to go around some of the job agencies in the city just to see if they have any interest in a Brit. Perhaps I should start up a Wedge import business...

Dinkel,

Me, a veggie? Bloomin' heck no!!!!! As a seasoned festival and car show goer, you kinda have to live on dodgy burgers and fried chicken. :-) The only thing Im alergic to is mayonaise.

Is there anything you want bringing over from the UK? Prefably suitcase size...
