I'm sorry but this beats anything on the pit babes thread.

By any chance is your computer screen an old black-and-white model?
Eric Mc said:Eric, you said that in another thread too. I'm just curious about your thinking - are you expecting that it would be a safety issue, or that McCedafone will have second thoughts about its commercial merits (substantial) or its aesthetic merits (nil)?
Or horrible British Racing Green - ugh.
I'd much prefer to be overtaken by a 200 mph mirror.
I reckon it will need to be altered before it hits the track.

Safety - and consequently objections from other teams.
From a commercial point of view, reflective backgrounds "drown out" the lettering on the bodywork too. I really do think that it will be a much muted "silver" by the time of the first race.
No chance. The amount of money put into developing the new chrome paint type would not have been done if the car was going to end up being silver.
I've seen some non press shots of the new bodywork it really looks awesome in a normal surrounding.

I wouldn't know about the safety part.
As regards the commercial part, I think you'll find that McLaren and their major partners spent a huge amount of time deciding on the scheme and are happy with - even proud of - what they unveiled on Friday.
There may end up being an unexpected glitch with the scheme's effectiveness on tv, but I promise you that its telegenic qualities were subject to keen analysis all through the process.
A few years ago Ferrari made their competition "Rosso Corsa" more intense specifically because they wanted a colour that would stand out better on tv screens. Relative to Ferrari, the guys at McLaren are only about twenty times more obsessive.

Im not sure. BAR had the change theirs years ago after they wernt allowed to run two seperate liveries. I know thats different, but im expecting this one too cause some discussion too and probably get banned.

If it does come up for debate, I think we can safely guess whether Ferrari and Renault would support it.

I reckon it could look awesome, or crap - but until we see it "in the flesh" (OK, on TV) it will be very difficult to tell how well the chrome works.
I take it you weren't thinking of chrome being a major feature of your F1 if you decide to get a respray

Such a shame - McL have clearly got the process sorted now

On the other hand, chrome could look quite fetching as an interior theme. Can't you just imagine the warm/cool interplay between dark leather seats and chrome doorpulls, bulkheads and footwells? Not to mention which, I have always wanted a chrome steering wheel - it would last so much longer than suede.
Joseph, you have inspired me!

We'll see - but I stand by my original assertion. On a bright sunny day, the reflections and glare off that bodywork my be too much for other drivers.
One would think that this would have been vetted with the FIA beforehand. Of course, the FIA would never withdraw an approval that they had already granted (unless they had granted it to Williams or McLaren, that is).
I doubt it actually.
I don't think we'll know for sure until other drivers start running on the same circuit as the McLaren - and then they'll know whether it is a problem or not. My hunch is that they will not like it.
I am sure the reflections of surrounding scenery will be problematic.
When is the last time we ever saw such a highly polished finish on a race car.

well the colour scheme looks good but the car is really ugly. all those extra winglets and things spoil the shape of it. compare it to a '93 car and it looks awful.
and the chrome is going to really annoy the drivers infront of it when it is sunny at places like Bahrain and Sepang. Imagine the glare in your mirrors!....
