Can anyone tell me if the austin princess 4 pot calipers will fit straight onto a series 1 2.8i or does it require modifications.

I believe that you have to split the caliper and insert a spacer because the Princess didn't use vented discs, so the Ford disks are thicker. I think you might also need a caliper to bracket adapter as well because the hole spacing is different.

I'd quite like to know because this is a mod that I was contemplating too, but never got to the bottom of this...

Griff 500 brakes. Only 2 pot but I personally dont think you need any more stopping power on a car of that weight.

That was sort of my view too so that was why I didn't really follow up the Princess option

Found these to be more than adequate. Decent fluid and braided hoses with Griff 500 discs and pads stopped my S very nicely..

Apart from on snow that is..

princess calipers were an old capri /escort mod - you have to fit the spacer to widen the caliper out for vented discs
since the princess calipers weigh as much as the rest of the car , often leak when you fit the spacer , and are getting rare ......... it would seem simpler to just fit the griff discs and spend £300 on ali 4 pots - job done.
