Quick question, bought a smartphone with satnav which has a sucker device followed by a speaker box, followed by a GPS receiver, followed by a phone cradle followed by the phone. Tried to install it properly in the Elise and found that in order to make it fit over the dash I needed it halfway up the windscreen!

My question is: Anyone fitted sat nav to an Elise? The kit came with an adeshive disc to put on the dash but the dash is alacantra. I was thinking of putting it on the passenger sill as the other place is to the right of the steering wheel on the dash and to do that means stretching the power lead over from the cigareete lighter, straight across the drivers footwell / steering wheel, which would be mad surely?

What would be best is some sort of universal clip on the hooks or screws over the aluminium tray under the heater controls? Is there something available to do this?

Hi mate, take a look at www.trixster.tsohost.co.uk/Lotus/IMG_2596.jpg

You should just be able to make out the sat nav holder on the right of the steering wheel. It's a 5quid job from halfrauds which, whilst looking a little tacky, works really well and can be adjusted in width to fit anyting up to an ipod/ipaq. It doesnt obscure vision yet still sucks onto the windscreen without a problem.

If you look even closer you'll be able to see a hangar111 phone stalk which I use for my ipod. This could be an alternative place to put your smartphone. I place my gps reciever right at the front of the dash next to the screen to stop it slipping about...

Oh, forgot to mention: The power lead runs from the cigarette lighter under the driver carpet and up to the ipaq. When it's not in use the lead just lays on the floor next to the right-hand side of the drivers seat.

Thanks for the reply. I've discovered a cigarette lead extension cable, so I'm thinking of mounting mine where yours is to the right of the steering wheel and trailing the wire either under the carpet or round the back of the speedo.

I have my Sat Nav (tom tom go) suckered to the window just above the tax disc (i.e. on passenger side). I find it's EXCELLENT there. You can easily reach to use it, but it's far enough out the way of sight line to not be a distraction.

I'll try to find a pic to explain...!
