iPod problems

I've just bought a couple of 'shuffles' for the wife and I but I'm struggling to get them working properly.

Can I install seperate versions of iTunes into to different profiles or do we share one installation ?

At the moment I can only get it to work in one profile at a time , and I want it to work in three different ones.

eg , in my profile inserting a cd will open iTunes , but none of the music will transfer.

First I'd turn off the auto syncing - after you have plugged the shuffle into the computer select the preferences from the menu and select the ipod tab and turn on manual handle songs. Also whilst you are in options then change the default directory for the "itunes library" - (e.g. "C:music vault" ) this should solve the profile problem.
To transfer files from CD you need to select the tracks (ctrl - A), convert tracks (alt-a followed by v) this should then rip the CD into AAC standard. You can then just drag and drop the files from the library section on itunes into the connected Shuffle.
