Can anyone recommend somewhere that rents out Canon lenses based either in London or Essex ? After a 70-200 is f2.8L for a weekend later in the year...

Fixation seem good (but have never actually used them) I've been thinking abut hiring the 4k 200-400 VR for 50 quid.

Thanks Hank, that could be the ticket.

Can't figure out why their rental rate on that lense is less than the 100-400L though (which I already have )

Used fixation before - bit awkward to find, in building, up in the lift and keep walking the maze of corridors - but good service.

The Flash Centre have them for £25 per day (plus VAT I guess).

I haven't used them yet but at that price I might, if only for trying out potential purchases.

Their pricelist says:
Rental Supplement May 2005,
another price list pdf was August 2004 and Feb 2005 is the latest newsletter

If they can't take care of their website, do they take care of their equipment and customers...?

Yep, it's a bu**er to find but the kit and prices are good. Cosmetically it won't be perfect as most people hiring are pros and the kit gets a bit beaten up. However it's a great try before you buy if you're thnking of something pricey.

Prices need to have VAT added and you'll have to leave a credit card deposit for the full value of the equipment.

Also you can get them to clean you sensor on a while you wait service which is handy.

I wonder what happens if the lens is scratched. I assume they check the glass carefully upon return, and would expect you to pay for the lens in full if the glass itself is damaged.

Fair points, but my plumber's web site is rubbish and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my boiler

Camerworld do a hire service, they've got shops based in Chelmsford and London.

The staff seem knowledgeable and friendly, but I haven't a clue how competitive or good they are though on the hire though.

Neil.

Absolutely, the glass is all perfect and all kit functions perfectly. It's all checked before you take it out and after you bring it back before they tear up your deposit.

Bear in mind the vast majority of people who hire from there are pros who depend upon the kit to make a living. I'm sure if the kit quality in terms of function/glass was less then 100% they would not have survived so long.

I've used CALUMET for rental once before and found them pretty good. Mainly used by the press.
