This sounds almost too sensible to be true. Training high risk drivers to make them safer for us all - what can they be thinking of ? Well done that officer......M

The reason so many accidents happen with young drivers is cause the driving test is to focused on speed. All these kids come on the roads thinking that the best way to stay out of trouble is to stare at their speedo, when actually that's the last thing they should be doing. The driving test should teach people to drive properly and look where they are going.

Funny you should say that 'cos I was pulled at 33 driving the tranny last night.

To be honest it's a bugger to drive right on the limit as 3rd is worth 25 at reasonable revs and 4th gives you 35.
Anyway said fair enough I was over the speed limit and was I let off with a talking to after explaining all of the above points.

And I should say that constable has gained my respect.

33 is within 10% of the 30 limit. With the accuracy of the detection techniques and instruments any conviction would be unsafe at that speed.

Unless it was in some area where it was inappropriate to drive at even 30 Ithink the point is - what was that constable wasting his time over something as trivial as this.

I've said it before and I'll say it now...

The IAM has an image of being a club for santimonious old farts. This is a problem when, as road saftey pomotion group, our keenest target must be younger drivers.

The problem is that as a group of keen drivers, we seem to diffuse our own enthusiasm by contantly fladulating ourselves for enjoying the act of driving itself.

We want to do exciting things like skid pan sessions and trackdays, but they seem somehow contradictory to our ethos. So we don't do them. This means when trying to promote our selves, it's hard to find ways to make the IAM sound attractive.

There's no arguing with the fact young drivers are the ones at greatest risk, but they are also the one's least likely to take on board the message of an organisation that goes on at them like their Dad.

It's great to see someone taking an approach that is getting through to the yoof of today, and is quite rightly rewarded.

Congratulations to PC Spencer, let's hope that others are able to build on this terrific(SP?) start.

a few hours to a day on a skid pan would included in the test would save many a crash a year.

give up with them

borroewed me m8 NOs`ed cosworth
and took the test in that
was that fun spent most of the test with one eye glued to the speed on
