Ted, we appear to have lost the thread here. What happened to SPEEDING IN MY TVR 2 ?

Wild, wild stab in the dark here... but given the opening line of the thread, and how the last one was closed... could, and I use the work lightly, "could" be a clue...

Both your previous posts were abusive. Play by the rules or don't play at all.

Folks: I'd like to point out that someone has tried - not very cleverly - to copy my name (note the difference between lower and upper case, and the fact that the imposter has 'recently joined').

Please note that this thread was NOT started my me, the original 'simpo one'. It has clearly been started by someone out to cause trouble, and not very intelligently at that, since the original 100-post thread was not mine in the first place!

Perhaps the imposter would like to reveal himself and admit guilt to the offence of 'passing off', if he has the courage to do so. I would like to add that I received an e-mail, which I elected to delete unread, from *999*.

Conclusions, anyone?

A T2000 conspiracy to destabilise the good nature and high level of debate that normally goes on in these threads maybe .
Or someone that is totally bored and has no life of their own feels the need to clone your good self, have you had any washing disappear off the line recently .

I noticed a "recently joined" Shnoz appear recently. Sounds a little too close to my username not to arouse suspicion, especially as his comments appeared abusive (in view of the fact Ted binned them before I had even read them!)

This is all getting a bit
Whilst being extremely bored at work I have trawled through the members directory, and all I could find was one Simpo One with cap S and O who joined in March, so where has simpo one and Simpo one come from or gone to…

People have to be pretty damn sad to imitate people on a message board to amuse themselves..

Uh oh, look out for a JASON F soon spouting abuse.

The original and authentic one is me, who joined in March and has hundreds of posts to my name. (It's odd that the Tuscan post wasn't all lower case, but it was me.) However, the imposter only reared his rather stupid head yesterday and his/her/its profile says 'recently joined'. That's the best way to tell us apart. The other way you can tell is that I (try to) post intelgent, helpful or amusing things whilst my imposter merely stamps around in a padded cell. Mind you, I have a feeling he/she/it won't be back...

Dunno how relevant it is, but my username usually appears as 'pdv6' and at other times as 'PDV6', without me having done anything to it. If I attempt to edit my profile and rectify the issue, I get a message saying that the selected name already exists.

This goes back a while, so I've always assumed that the list of unique names in the database is not case sensitive, but simpo's experience tends to suggest otherwise...

I suspect (and PetrolTed may be able to confirm this) that the username you specify in registering is case sensitive, but the login process isn't.

The way your username appears is the same as how you typed it when logging in. So, if the caps lock was on, you'll be PDV6, if not pdv6.

Sounds like a fair enough reason. Not that I've logged in for as long as I can remember! ('remember me' seems to work pretty flawlessly for me)

Still, it does beg the question of how 'Simpo one' comes to be, 'cos (as 'simpo one') points out, its definately a separate profile...

This is what I was trying to explain: he could create a new (case sensitive) username "Simpo one" that would be different from "simpo one".

However, there is nothing to stop either of them logging in typing 'simpo one' or 'Simpo one'. I think.

Anyway, I bet Ted is on the case and has already tightened everything up.

Probablt just me being thick, but from my experience trying to change my own profile, I would have thought that 'Simpo one' would have been prevented from creating a profile in the first place.

But as you say, Sherlock Ted is probably hot on the heels of the perp already...
